Great quality MIM for Springers.

Just wanted to let you know I let my machine guy take a look at my MIM Springfield parts just because I was curious, not doubting any of you. My friend said MIM has come a long way and Springfield's sear in my SS 1911A1 and Disco are pretty close to the same quality as far as wear goes as barstock or tool grade steel. I hit another 1000 rounds today which puts me around 3200 rounds +/- 400 rounds. So the sear, measuring with a caliper has not lost any material and friend said Rockwell Hrdns is between 48-55 if I recall correctly. That is very good. MIM is just fine and these parts should last a very long time

So I installed a WC 1911 pin set but it was a bit rough. What do you guys recommend for a really good pin set. Also since I do not have the ILS, is the 23 lb. main spring standard

I would have expected as much but it's nice to hear that somehow has actually checked it that has expertise in the area. Thanks for sharing!

If you really want to feel secure, keep spare parts handy.
Just having them pretty much prevents ever needing them.

Quoted for truth. NOTHING I have spare parts for ever breaks. God forbid I don't have a backup anvil though cuz that sucker will shatter into a million pieces. :)

My brother-in-law bought a generator when the first year at their new house a big storm took out power for a week. Years later and it's never been used for a storm. :p

Hey this might be a question for Springfield but do you think each one of their sears is hand fit, or since I am pretty happy with the quality of thier sears do you think they are universal as in if I ordered a sear from Springfield. They gotta all be to a certain spec and massed produced otherwise it would be a hand fit 1911 costing tripple the price. Right?

MIM parts are now used in Glocks and have been since 2009... so if MIM=bad then Glock=bad... and Glocks are very reliable, if ugly with mediocre ergonomics.

Either way, MIM has come a long way but it depends on the part, use, and form of stress put on it. I do know that Springfield 1911's are pretty good to go, so I wouldn't sweat it.

Thank you for taking the time to prove that MIM parts stand up. MIM parts are used in the production of air carrier airplanes and are held to pretty tough standards.

I have read year after year here on the Forum people bashing MIM parts. I have never had a failure of a gun due to MIM parts and most of my guns get pretty heavy usage.
