Statistics gathered by the National Center for Education Statistics calculates that school shooting incidents happen at a rate of 9.3 cases per year. There are 119,000 schools in our nation, so the average school can (statistically speaking) expect such an event once every 12,800 years. These numbers frame just how rare these incidents actually are.
The most effective way to prevent violent firearms crime is to continue to eliminate the underlying cause of the criminal behavior itself.
In short, take away the motive, and the firearm is not even an issue anymore. People do not see a firearm, then make the choice to kill- in fact it’s just the opposite- people make the choice to kill first, then choose a firearm to do it.
