Grease or oil for enfield?

I have a Mk4 enfield .303. I have been told that grease is better than oil for smooth operations. Beings that I only target shoot with it quarterly (if that), what would you recommend. It is a recent acquisition, so I've only shot it once so far.
Also, is grease or oil recommended for a FNFAL and AK that is shot under the same coniditions? I use oil right now, and haven't had a problem yet.
Thanks!

Seeing as the Enfield is a bolt action and not a semiauto, I would say that oil is just as good as grease for "normal aplications". IMHO, I think oil is also better for rust prevention.

Just my 2 cents,
Gino

I think grease is better just for the simple reason that you do not want any lubricant in a chamber, and oil is more likely to get there than grease, although in hot weather grease will flow just about anyway it feels like it wants to flow. I personlly started using dry film lubricants couple of years ago and very happy with it. They also protect from rust pretty good.

In regard to semiautos - in general, the less oil or grease you got on them, the better for reliablility, 'cause like everybody knows,
oil and grease collect all kinds of junk. Try dry film lubricants -
they work real well, or, if only oil/grease is available, I would probably choose grease for the same reason as mentioned above
- chamber should be dry.

Do your firing pin assembly a favor and put grease on your spring and cocking piece, your action will be much smoother.

But then again, I do not know much... but it works for me.
;)

grease the trigger, and inside of the bolt(cocking lever, spring, firing pin) only oil the bolt, grease gumms it up. and go easy on the oil while your at it. wipe it on then wipe it off basicly. it seems to like it mostly dry. dry lube doesn't work well though, at least the remington type doesn't.

Remember there are many types of grease.I am lucky I have access to many types, some will really slick up an action, some are like glue try some with Teflon or Moly.Do not over apply,a litle goes a long way.
