Grease Cookie and Lube Pill Recipes

So, after extensive searching... I really haven't come up with much. In fact, the only recipe I have is Smokin Gun's. Everybody else posts ingredients but no real recipe. So how about it folks...lets have a nice, collected recipe list so when newbs like myself search, they actually find what they're looking for!

I was going to make the collection myself, but like I said, all I could really find was SG's, which I'll post below. As people add recipes, i'll edit them into the main posts.

Common Ingredient Locations-

Crisco: Any Grocery Store
Olive Oil: Any Grocery Store
Beeswax: Many online stores, Arts and Craft stores (Michael's, AC Moore)
Toilet Ring/Donut: Hardware Stores

Basic Lube Pill Recipe by Various Posters

50/50 Beeswax+Crisco

Add Olive Oil or Ballistol or another oil of your choice to make it more pliable if needed.

The beeswax is used to stiffen the Crisco, so on colder days, less may be needed in the mixture.

What I did was start out with:
Parafin comes in a brick divided to to 4 like a stick a butter, I used a stick.
Then 1/4 of a Bolwax Toilet Seal Ring(Beeswax)substitute or beeswax or use with the parafin.
Then 8-10 Tablespoons of Olive Oil/soy oil.
The Olive oil is the Lube the Waxes just carry it and keep the pill as you want it.(consistacey/hard or soft...climate time of year)
And that made alot about 600 pills...about 1/8" thick for the most part.
Place the lube mixture in a small saucepan, place the small saucepan in a larger pan with water boilin' the water and sorta poach the lube mix to a liquid.
Level stiff heated pizza pan(or 7-9" heavy pie pan)is the best thing to pour your mix into...so mix cools evenly(flat). Place in fridge when it's set stiff(optional).
And worked good for me...you need to try your best guess and add/subract as you like them for your use.

Punch out to the caliber of your choice, with a tube. Place lube pill over powder with ball on top.

Paraffin, beeswax, and crisco in equal parts. Melted and poured into the base of springform cheesecake pans, the rolled edge makes an excellent thickness gauge. After cooling, I use stainless steel tubing to punch out the disks (two diameters, one for 36 and one for 44).

Recipe by Doc Hoy

One pound can of Crisco
One wax ring (Toilet donut)

Melt them together on a stove while consuming a Killian's Red, Newcastle Brown, Yuengling's Black and Tan, or Belgian White. (Beer's got to have a color in the name to be good.)

I edited my first post with an ingredient location section.

Beeswax is all over the internet, and at arts and crafts stores. I got some at Michaels today. Online, I found prices at about $6-8/lb. Michaels was 18/lb, but I'm super impatient. :P

relatively clean.

It works.

I tried making my own yesterday.

2-2-1, Crisco-Beeswax-BoreButter

Don't know how it will work, but they seemed to come out OK. A little bit sticky, but I suppose given the ingredients thats to be expected. If they work, it'll be far cheaper than the Ox Yoke things.

Edit: I actually don't know how any of this will work, I haven't had a chance to shoot yet. :(

Smokin' gun, the man

I use a cheap-assed version of Smokin' gun's recipe.

1. Instead of buying parafin, I use the wax of an old citronella candle that i found in the shed (yes, who knows what other stuff is in it).
2. Crisco.
3. Toilet-bowl beeswax
4. A good dollop of olive oil

I cut the pills with a old shell casing to about .36".

A tip: I keep them in a little tin with and pinch of corn meal--it keeps them from sticking together or on your fingers.

I used them yesterday and fired 5 cylinders through a Remington '58 without it gumming up or the accuracy going to hell. And I didn't notice any mosquitoes

I really hate the tedious chore of cutting the pills.

I like the cornmeal Tip...hacve to try that...

Tip: Makin' up a set of cutter tubes like Oldelm made for me is the fastest part of cuttin' up them pills for me.

bees wax can be expensive check on line ebay amazon.com or locally if you have a michaels arts and crafts.

Does anybody know if there is a difference between yellow or white beeswax, or if its possible to use "Candle Wax" like they sell at Michaels? The "candle wax" is cheaper, but I don't know whats its actually made out of.

Wax

Candle wax is generally paraffin, a petroleum product, though it may be blended with beewax. Though I have used paraffin, the standard advice is to avoid petroleum waxes in BP loads. It produces more fouling, I'm told.
A source of beeswax in sheets is from Bee Keeping supply outfits.
I use a 1/8" disc of beeswax between two 0.030" wads for a grease cookie. My lube for PP'd bullets is a mix of beeswax, olive oil.
