"Granite Shadow"

Here is some info on operation "Granite Shadow" which may be of interest to some. I cut and pasted a portion I thought interesting, but the entire story can be viewed at the following link:

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/earlywarning/2005/09/today_in_dc_commandos_in_the_s.html

Here is a portion:

"...That's where Granite Shadow comes in. U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM), the military's new homeland security command, is preparing its draft version of CONPLAN 0400 for military operations in the United States, and the resulting Granite Shadow plan has been classified above Top Secret by adding a Special Category (SPECAT) compartment restricting access.

The sensitivities, according to military sources, include deployment of "special mission units" (the so-called Delta Force, SEAL teams, Rangers, and other special units of Joint Special Operations Command) in Washington, DC and other domestic hot spots. NORTHCOM has worked closely with U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), as well as the secret branches of non-military agencies and departments to enforce "unity of command" over any post 9/11 efforts.

Further, Granite Shadow posits domestic military operations, including intelligence collection and surveillance, unique rules of engagement regarding the use of lethal force, the use of experimental non-lethal weapons, and federal and military control of incident"

I like the end of the article, when they mention their plans to have a story called "Code Name of the Week". To hell with national security, there's just too bloody much that's too easily hidden by classifying "Top Secret" or simply misnaming it to keep it under wraps from oversight commitees.

And on one hand, I can't wait for some zombies or civil unrest, but on the other hand, I sure as hell don't wanna tangle with special forces/seals/rangers/etc...

Pucker:

I have a question about your statement:
And on one hand, I can't wait for some zombies or civil unrest

Do you believe a group of people assembling to petition their government for redress of their grievances could be interpreted by some military personnel as..."civil unrest?"

How about the definition of "civil disobediance" referred to in the "John Warner Defense Authroization Act? I wonder if assembling to petition for redress would be "civil disobedience?"

Gosh, I wonder if asking these questions could be construed as "conspiracy to embolden the enemy?"

I'd better hush up.

We've got plans covering every contigency. I'm sure locked away in the vaults waiting to be declassified are plans dealing with an invasion from Canada in case the UK fell to the Nazis, and which were being updated straight through May 1945.

I'd say maybe...but only after '08. But I'd suspect the frequency of which people like us will be tagged/watched/datamined and otherwise kept tabs on until then will rise exponentially.

I seem to recall the military being utilized to remove veterans protesting in Washington, D.C. early in the last century.

They must not gotten into the "Free Speech Zones" in an orderly fashion...

(Is anyone else infuriated about those?)

A couple of years ago, I attended a very liberal Community College and in one class a discussion was started over the news story that the US gov't had a contingency plan to use small nukes in either Iraq or Afghanistan (forget which).

Oh boy, you would have thought that the missles were already falling. The younger folks in the class were swearing that the news article was proof that the US was preparing for an all-out nuclear war.

I spoke my piece that the Gov't has plans for everything and the mere existence of such plans was no proof of action.
