Looking for a GPS for hunting and work. Considering the Garmin Foretrex 401.

Any recommendations from those using GPS?

A little more info will work. Are you talking for vehicle base or portable? I have 2 portables. I have a Garmin Etrex for the wide open land I hike in. But for Search And Rescue I use the Garmin Map 60Csx. It works well in the 4x4 and extremely well in heavy woods and cover we have to enter.Good luck.

I also have a Garmin Map 60Csx that I use for automobile navigation, Geocaching, and in the woods. A very nice unit with the road mapping chip.

+1 on the Garmin Map60Cx or Map60Cxs

you'll need topo maps and or city nav maps..... but you'll need those with most anything. check ebay or craigslist

Garmin 60Csx or if you have a bigger hand go for the 76Csx, effectively the same unit as the 60Csx, except it is easier to hold (IMHO) and floats. I also like the position of the buttons much better than 60Csx. Either would be an excellent choice.

It would not be for vehicle mount. On my person only. Also might need to use it overseas (work) so has to be compatible in other countries...

GPS OCONUS

Hknut: One piece of info that may help, or may not. I travel Internationally in my work. In some countries items like GPS and Sat. Phones are forbidden. Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Yemen, some African countries. Unlike the EU these countries will usually check your luggage when entering the country. They can sometimes be bribed to "overlook" these things, but sometimes you get a "By the Book guy" and he can make your entrance pretty sucky. Some south American countries don't mind the GPS, but they have heartburn on the Sat. Phones. FYI

I have had A Garmin for the last 10 years. Would never get anything alse. I use it in the boat, hunting, and the Family and i go on geocaches(it's a family thing) and it's a blast. Can't say anything bad about others as i have only used one other that was a Meggellon,Did not care for the lay out,but it work as good in the long run
