just got a garmin etrex vista cx. I am a complete novice I am having trouble getting started the manual doesn't realy show what to do as far as doing things such as parking your truck going in the woods and finding your way back. I understand how to start a waypoint at the beginning by pushing in the thumbstick and pushing it in at your destination or other points of interest, But I don't understand what to do to go find it. Do I use the compass page?? I understand if I hit go to it just shows a straight line to the waypoint flag. Ther is a video from garmin on this unit Does anyone know if this is anygood?? If someone could show me step by step on how to start I could probably get the other things going Thanx

Too hard to explane. Here is a start. Get in your car and just drive around. Put in a way point. Find the map portion of the GPS, it will be a screen with a cursor which is you, then just play with it, the line will be the route you're on. The map will have different settings from as low a 100' to hundreds of miles. Select a low range like 2.5 to figure it out.
Hope this helps.

You have to be patient and look through the manual. It's there... I checked the online pdf of the manual to make sure.

Nobody here is going to be able to explain better than the manual how to use tracks.

Tyme's right on target

but....

You know how us guys are. We never surrender to the instruction manual until the better mousetrap we were building caught us instead, or the bicycle we bought for the kid and tried to assemble ourselves ended up being a unicycle. Read the instructions indeed!! Why that's clearly nixed in the Book of Guy Rules! :D

but....

GPS units are exempted in the Book. Ain't no way you're going to get good with it without reading the manual.

There is, however, a glimmer of hope. I'm not sure about your model, but Garmin supplies a quick reference guide with most of their models. It'll get you started, and you can still keep your guy status by honestly saying you never read the manual ;) :D .

Garmin also makes an instructional video that's helpful. It's available on their website http://www.garmin.com or probably at the place you bought your GPS. I've had my eTrex Legeng for 2 years and am still learning. Quite impresive little devices for sure. Good luck.
