Gp100 with fixed sights?

old fart

a guy wants to trade me this for my auto as i have ammo and he doesn't, he says its a gp100, but i've never seen one with a fixed sight. wonder how old this is?

Yup, they're still making the three-inch fixed. You can see them on Ruger's website. I just handled one the other day at one of my local shops. Nice little package. Hard to go wrong with any GP-100. I love my four inch.

The OP's example has the older style grip, which I found more comfortable than the Hogue used on the new ones.

This one is a late model 3" GP100, with some work (and new grips) by Marc Morganti at Gemini Customs:

$550 seems high for a used GP100. I can get a new Wiley Clapp GP for $599.

I would trade if he would throw in $100.

I have been looking at used GP100's...haven't seen one for under $500.
Wiley Clapp editions are $700.
I'm only looking because I have a bunch of 357 ammo and nothing to shoot it in.

Though it's not exact, Ruger has a serial number reference on their website. If I'm reading it right, it looks like this one is from about 1989.

I have a 4" GP100 with standard adjustable sights, but I think I like the looks of this one better. Nice looking revolver.

As others have said, the 3" fixed sight is still being made, but not with those small rubber grips...Fixed sight had the small rubber, and adjustable models had the larger rubber...Grip panels are not interchangable between the two grip sizes...$550 used, or your trade, are both a bit out of balance in his favor IMNSHO...

Here is my 4" fixed sight, half-lug (KGPF-340) from the same era as that one...Mine looks like it has seen a few more miles:

That is my 'Canadian' GP-100 trade in. I'd love to have some stocks like yours!

Thanks,

Lowercase,

I got them off of ebay from a seller in Thailand. They look great and the price was right. After purchase, they took about 11 days to get here in the mail.

Here's a link to a set of grips:

This seller has a bunch of stuff, so be sure look at his other listings. I've seen the GP100 grips offered in different woods and some without medallions. Also, he has more than one seller name on ebay. I've bought from both with no problems. I found all of these by searching for "GP100 Grips" on the ebay search feature.

Deaf, I really like that half lug Canadian GP. Looks great!

lowercase,

Thanks for the link.

Say how well do the grips hold up shooting magnum loads?

See I love those RB grips and now I have to convince wife to let me grab one.

I do use my gun as a field gun alot and it will be shot with full loads now and then.

So far, they've held up just fine to magnum loads.

I've run a bunch of 158-grain magnum stuff through both of them with those grips and no problems.

I got them because I want to occasionally carry the GPs on a belt holster, and the Lett grips (and other rubber grips) are sticky with regards to my cover garment.

As to the wood, I think they're mahogany, but I'm not a woodworker or anything, so it's just a guess.

I can tell you that they look great up close, and the guys who run my local range liked them a lot. They really bring out the looks of a GP100.
