GP100 vs 686 plus follow up

I started a thread a few days back asking for opinions between the two. I want to thank everyone who took the time to give me their advice.

I choose the 3" GP100. I don't if it's common or not, but I compared the two. The GP100 had a waaaaaaaaaaay nicer trigger. Actually, the S&W was very disappointing. Maybe this was just between these two individual guns at not a true sampling. The Ruger also seemed to balance better in my hand.

That S&W sure was a beautiful gun, I can see why folks love them. It just appears that I'm a Ruger man.

Once again, thanks to everyone who took the time to help me.

A wise choice.

Many Smith fans, and I'm one but not near what I used to be, always talk of how clunky the Ruger is and how tough its trigger is.

Yet, in recent years of comparison, the Ruger is just so much nicer. And for the dollar, absolutely no comparison with any other revolver in current production.

In the bigger buck realm of course there are the German Korths, French M73s and CZ's Dan Wessons.

In 2012, I bought a new 4" 686PLUS, and a new 4" stainless GP100. The trigger on the GP100, while having a longer pull, was much better than the 686PLUS. The Smiths trigger was short, but right before the break, would hit a "wall" and would cause me to jerk it off target every time. The Ruger trigger is predictable, and just works better for me. The easily replaceable sights, the full frame without side plate cuts, and the grip peg style frame(allowing many different grip sizes, and shapes) just made the choice that much easier for me.

I recently traded the 686PLUS for an older, unfired 6" stainless GP100, and I couldnt be happier.

You chose wisely I think. About a week ago a friend who has not shot revolvers above .22 said he was thinking about getting one in 357 and should he get a SA or DA. I have a sort of apples to apples on that so took my nice old 1976 Blackhawk out with my GP100. We shot 38 Special and a couple types of 357 Mag. I also brought along some speed loaders for the GP100. At the end he decided on the DA but told me he was going to go with a 4 inch.
