GP 100s, police trade ins...

Saw some at the gun show this weekend. 4" bbl., spurless hammer, DA only, fixed sights. Cylinder rod not fully shrouded, so barrel lighter--have seen 3inchers with this setup, but not many 4" til now. $249 plus tax, came with holster and speedloader. Anybody buy one yet? I almost did, there seemed to be plenty in supply, so maybe in a week or two. Does somebody make a tritium front sight for these, seems like it was a do it yourself install? Can't remember for sure. This piece seems like it could really be a great all around hell-for-tough wheelgun, with or without the nightsight.

Man, that's a great price. I've got a friend who's looking to get into a .357 in that range, and I'd set him on one of these in a heartbeat.

Who's the dealer? Does (s)he have a web site? There are some listed on gunbroker.com now. The reserve is upwards of 3 bills.

Sorry, don't know these dealers by store name, just know that they set up at Goodman's shows in Dayton regularly. Another show occurs there weekend of the 21st, l'll try to get info then. I'm assuming these are Ohio dealers, could be the guns came from SOG, or similar importer/distributor. Usually, if a couple dealers have something like this, several others around the U.S. do too.

I saw some trade-in Gp100's at a gunshow about 2 months ago; don't recall the price. They showed alot of finish wear, but so did all the guns this dealer had. Maybe there's a bunch hitting the market? You couldn't go wrong with a GP100, even an ugly one.

I have to disagree. There is a local dealer that has a couple of the 3inch guns that came back across the boarder. They have considerable endshake and cylinderplay in full lock up. Considering the time that a FLGS will need to put into it, $200 might be a little steep, and they want $300 for them.
Even a GP100 will get worn down if treated badly enough.

I recently purchased one of these GP100's for $235 with holster and sppedloader and could not be happier, it feels new, very tight and shoots great. I called Ruger and found out it was made in 1993 but if you looked at it you would think it was only a couple months old. Whoever had this gun sure did keep good care of it. I was looking for a SP101 at the time but when I saw this gun and the price plus it's condition I snapped it up quick. The best deal I've ever gotten. Good luck if you get one.

Here are some on GunBroker.com .. check it out!

"This pistol was issued to the Canada Police, once the police replaced their firearms, these revolvers were sent to the factory and were completely refurbished. The factory refurbished revolvers were placed in the box as shown along with a speed loader, and the heavy holster made for this model firearm that the police used with the revolvers. The revolvers are the Ruger model GP100, they are stainless steel, they have the 4 inch barrels and are 6 shots in 357 cal. They have the strengthened design intended for constant use with all 357 ammo, they have the rubber cushioned grip panels with polished Goncalo Alves wood inserts. Note the hammer as this firearm has been designed for double action firing only. The revolvers are in excellent like new condition from the factory refurbishing as they put them back into as new shape/condition mechanically. They don't do anything cosmetically, but where the revolvers are stainless steel almost any marks can almost certainly be buffed out. The holsters are Safariland made for this model revolver and also marked so on the back. These are extremely heavy well made holsters and they too are in excellent condition. This set with the very nice looking stainless revolver and wood insert grips, the heavy holster and the addition of the speed loader, makes for a very nice addition to any collection, makes up the ideal defense firearm, if the police used them, you know it is a great combination, and they also are the perfect firearm for range and pleasure shooting as you can use either the 357 mag cartridge or the 38 cartridge another bonus for this set. Must be shipped to a ffl, purchaser to pay the actual shipping cost to be determined by your ffl's address, money orders, certified funds, and credit cards accepted. ....... "

Like I said, the word from the dealer is that the reserve is $400. He said that he's getting some more and will lower the price to $325. Not exactly a bargain. There's a gun show here in a month. Saw some at the last show 3 weeks ago in the $250 range.

FYI ... Latest information from the seller:

"The reserve was set at 400.00 and I had 5 of them, I just got an invoice that either 5 or 10 more are due in next week so I am dropping the price to 325.00, so the reserve will be lowered when the auctions close and relist. You can purchase them per e-mail too if you are interested in one .... "
