Govt challenging DHS ammo buys

I remember shooting about 150 rounds on a training day about 10 years ago but up until my retirement 2 years ago we would shoot the 40 round qualification course once a year and that was it. These guys must go to the range once a week to blow off that kind of number. I spoke to a Training Officer a couple months ago and they can't even get .40 cal now.

I can't vouch for what the Army gets, but I know when I went through BMT we only got 100 or so rounds to train with which includes "qualification" with our rifles. Granted, I'm not a PJ or security personnel, so it may be very different for them, seeing as they carry the toys around every day that would make it necessary for them to be proficient with them, would likely equate to them having more shots down range.

Nonetheless, I would like to see a better justification on why DHS' officers, apparently are getting more range time or get nearly 4 times the amount of ammunition required to train our men and women in the military.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and how the DHS will defend their position
