They're doing an end around run. The solution here is simple. If smart gun technology is so great and will save so many lives all the federal government has to do is mandate that all bid specifications for government issue and or use firearms incorporate smart gun technology. The U.S.federal government is the largest single consumer in the world. Almost anytime they do this in any other industry their specs become the world standard. I beleive that according to procurement law they cannot specify a supplier. Only specifications to be met. To specify one particular supplier for any product would be illeagal. Even top secret military goodies go out for bid. Hey, why doesn't the military order smart guns so the enemy couldn't use a captured weapon?
Why don't all these local governments mandate smart gun technology in their bid specs?
You don't think for a minute that even they don't believe it's a good idea for protecting their own life do you? I think I'll ask Governor Glendening (Spendening)from Maryland if he wants the State police officers that are gaurding his life to be using smart guns.
Maybe we can all get a grant to develop smart gun technology just for the purpose of supplying the people charged with protecting the lives of politicians. This way they could lead by example.
