AMENDMENT DETAILS:
The following amendments are expected to be offered to the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2006. The House is scheduled to begin consideration of this bill tomorrow (Thursday, June 23).

* King Amendment to Deny In-State Tuition to Illegal Aliens - Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is planning to offer an amendment that would prohibit any Labor/HHS funds from being used in contravention of federal law prohibiting states from offering illegal aliens taxpayer-funded in-state tuition, unless the state also provides Americans from other states the same benefit.

* Hayworth Amendment to Deny Social Security to Illegal Aliens - Rep. J.D. Haworth (R-AZ) is planning to offer an amendment that would effectively prevent the currently pending U.S./Mexico Social Security totalization agreement from going into effect. This agreement, which is signed by both countries but has not yet been presented to Congress for disapproval, threatens to drain the U.S. Social Security system by allowing Mexicans who have worked in American (both legally and illegally) to qualify for U.S. Social Security retirement benefits. Specifically, this amendment prohibits any funds appropriated by the bill from being used to administer benefits that would only be payable due to the totalization agreement with Mexico. The potential for fraud and the looming amnesty threat could mean millions of illegal aliens from Mexico could qualify for Social Security under this agreement.

SAMPLE MESSAGE:
"I'm a concerned constituent calling to urge the representative to vote in favor of the King Amendment to the Labor/HHS appropriations bill to deny in-state tuition to illegal aliens. I'm also calling to ask the representative to vote in favor of the Hayworth Amendment to prevent Social Security benefits from being paid to illegal aliens from Mexico."

Totalization is a total screwjob. They want to count time worked in Mexico--and who could verify that?--toward the determination of the stipend owed. Figure on everyone who applies qualifying for the maximum award. Talk about insanity with the SS system already on the ropes.

The idea is to stave off chaos in Mexico by putting a big chunk of that country on the American dole.

NAFTA, CAFTA, and now SHAFTA!

Illegal Aliens should be DEPORTED, not made eligible for GOVERNMENT BENEFITS. As for counting time worked in Mexico, how in the name of hell is this alleged working time to be verified.

Remember Ronald Reagan's comment, TRUST BUT VERIFY. How are we to VERIFY???

Dear Mike,

what is the HR number on the bill this is going on?

This is HR 219........

To amend title II of the Social Security Act to ensure the integrity of the Social Security trust funds by requiring the Managing Trustee to invest the annual surplus of such trust funds in marketable interest-bearing obligations of the United States and certificates of deposit in depository institutions insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and to protect such trust funds from the public debt limit.

if you want to verify the existance of a bill go to thomas.loc.gov which is the site for congress on the internet.......

I beleive you will find snopes to be right.......

Hell HR 219 isnt even listed on the legislative update of the site you gave a link to....lol.

If we took every thing we recieved with a grain of salt and did some research we could eliminate a lot of BS that is floated over the internet and conserve some bandwidth....

Also, Snopes, a reputable hoax busting site, is deliberately pushing false data with some political angle involved?!

I smell Reynold's wrap.

Hey, hey- I could be wrong! After all, it is possible that there is some massive conspiracy going on involving Snopes and the SSA. Hey, maybe Durbin is in on it too!

but the mexicans are so benificial to our countrys survival right? we NEED them here, nothing would ever get done without the wets.

Hey, where'd Mike go? I want to find out what his representatives said after he called them, but he seems to have abandoned participation in this thread.
