For the death penality, according to a newspaper in the Bay area of CA.

He can use this as a way of circumventing the execution and give everyone in the judicial system a new look at the 'Right or Wrong' of the state putting to death someone who is found guilty by so called 'peer'.
If a true 'peer' were used, killers would not be put to death.
For the people who are the 'peer' are actually killers. So it is something that does need an additional look see, according to the newspaper. (parapharased)

What is your take on this?

My take is that Tookie has been found guilty in multiple courts. He is the co-founder of one of the worse gangs in our history. He had refused to give up the leaders of the gang he co-founded and still refuses to help the LEO's to put a stop to the gang.

So, he's written a couple of books and is now anti-gang yet hasn't gone out of his way to help the LEO's/State put an end to the gang violence.

My take is that Tookie needs to be strapped on a gurny tonite/tomorrow and given what the jury gave him, death.

As for the riots that the government/state is afraid is going to happen (and they will), it will just be an excuse for mass crime and mayhem. And that's all it will be, an excuse. Any excuse will do but the rightful death of Tookie will be the one that they will use.

I bet the Korean shop owners still wished they had their AR-15 and SKS's about now. (just using that as an example of what we saw during the Rodney King riots).

I live in Sacramento county.

I was reading Google and a local (bay area) newspaper was the one making the news for the day (editorial).
I am not so sure the newpaper is not going to be right. It will sure send a message to the African American persons that the Gov is looking out for them (votes next time). Since that is the only reason they are concerned.

None of the victims were African American and 3 were of Chinese origin. As always it will boil down to the racial card. I see African Americans coming out for more African Americans, funny though, many other groups are involved that are not race inclined they are looking at it from justice side only.

Justice is supposed to have a blindfold, but I am not so sure I can see that one in a proper perspective. Not in Hollywood anyway.
In CA it is pretty much a multi-colored state. Certain people seem to forget that. They have a tendency to bring their mores to the state when they move here.

I don't think the govenor has that option. I do know however, that there was a bill introduced in the California Legislature providing for a 4 or 5 year moritorium on executions in order for a "study" to be made about the process.

That is a stretch.
peer = citizen

From their definition of peer one could deduce the following: If the author of this article is ever put on trial, only a jury of trained Gorillas would make for a fair trial because that is the stupidest thing I've heard all day! Convicted murderers are not the peers of the defendant because the defendant is not yet convicted. Everyone who goes on trial is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. The murderers the author speaks of are already proven guilty and therefore not the defendant's peers. The average citizen, however, has not been proven to be guilty of anything and is therefore the defendant's peer. To use a convicted killer as a juror is to presume that the defendant is guilty and therefore far worse than using a person who hasn't been convicted of anything.
