GOT to tell about my "new"1911

For some time now,I have had an older Combat Commander around that was in need of refinishing.A few days ago,I was over at custom gripmaker Mike Praters shop and picked up a really nice set of stag grip panels for a 1911.Well,anyway,after looking at these grips against a couple 1911 frames,I got to thinking what it would look like if the frame were case color, idea being achieving the Colt Single Action Army look in a 1911.Well,the journey is somewhat complete as I put it all together last night. The frame, hammer, thumb safety and slide release are all case color(straws, grays, cobalt and a hint of magenta with some well defined borders;technical details which are ongoing are posted on the Smithy.) Stag grip panels, frontstrap and underside of trigger guard were already stippled.Slide is factory Colt deep blue, high polish.LOVE the look of it and the kicker is that it was already one of my best shooters which is why it was so worn in the first place. The dilema now is wwhether to sit with what I've got or re-do the frame with some updated info I now have.LOVE the look though--a state of the art 1911 that looks like an antique.I'll post a photo when I'm done for sure.Regards.

I asked several folks about this and they thought I was crazy. I thought it would look great. Would like to the see the finished product so I can show it to people.

1911Heaven, as I said in the Smitty forum, this sounds like a beautiful project. I can't wait to see the photos.
Have you thought of possibly fire bluing the small parts?
