Got home from my Iraq deployment about two weeks ago and had done alittle shopping. I picked up a 5" Ruger GP100 in .357, a Taurus 24/7 OSS in 9MM, and an EAA Witness Compact 10mm. I finally got the time to hit the range today with my boys and try them out.

GP100-- Let me say this, EVERY firearms enthusiest should own one. I ran 50 each reloaded .38 specials and .357 Mags both of the 158 grain type. Very smooth and the .38's produced almost no recoil. The .357's were very mild, especially compared to my SP101. They grouped excellent in both SA and DA. I will try some 125's next outing and she how she does. I think I will end up sticking with the 158's, since thats what the SP101 likes.

EAA Witness--This was the first time iI ever shot a 10mm. I used regular Remmington 180 grain. Felt like low power .357 magnum. Recoil was not bad, and the gun seemed rather accurate. My only compliant is that this thing throws brass worse than my mini-14! Most of it piled up about 35-40 feet behind me and about 15 feet right. It took forever to find the brass. I will definitly have to stockpile! I really liked this gun alot, I will have to play around with different bullet weights.

24/7 OSS--Shot like a dream. I would say this is one of the most accurate 9mm's I ever fired! Due to it's large size, recoil and muzzle flip were non existent. On my 2nd mag I emptied it as fast as I could from 10 yards. All 17 shots landed in about a 5' group! If I find the .45 version I will be picking it up! Brass went only about 4 feet away too.

All in all it was a great time. All 3 performed flawlessly and shot better than I could imagine.

Welcome Back

Glad to hear you are safe back from the sandbox. Thank you for your service.

Merry Christmas,

Welcome Home Goose

Welcome home, Yeah you gotta love the Ruger GP100. I too have the GP100 except 6" SS, and its by far my favorite revolver, especially at the range. Its just one fun to shoot reliable handgun.

Are you home for good then?

or just for a while? It'd be nice if we could get our troops back for good.

Speaking of the brass, how far does your GP-100 throw it?

I'm a reloader, and we reloaders sure do appreciate not having to chase & sort brass, hehehe. Come to think of it, why are you worried about the brass anyway? Just don't want to leave it, or are you shooting in a place where you shouldn't leave it?

I've got a Redhawk and an SP101; the only one missing from the current DA revolvers is the GP100. That's not quite a good enough reason to get one on its own. Again, since I reload, the Redhawk does everything a GP would and then some.

Hope to see you around more.

Thanks to everyone, it's great to be home. The brass for the 10mm is hard to come by nowadays, so I want to get every piece I can. I do reload, so it's an important thing for me.
