I was going to buy a Savage .22 MKII at my local gunshop the other day but they sold it, so I decided to shop around. I found one at my local Wally World for 99 bucks w/4X scope. :D
But, Man, did any of you ever buy a firearm at WalMart??
They are so friggin paranoid...1st, I have behind the counter, a woman who obviously doesn't normally work in sporting goods who can't find the box, goes into the back of the store for 20 mins to find it, only to come back and then realize that the box is right behind the counter (apperently, the rifle was only put on display an hour before I showed up.)
Then after I fill out the paper work, they call it in for the back ground check, they have to call up a manager to come up and double-check the firarms paperwork I filled out and double check my drivers liscense.
I then bought a bottle of Hoppe's and asked for a box of Winchester Wildcats. As the lady turned to get them, she was reminded by another employee: "Linda, don't you remember we can't sell ammunition with a rifle ever since what happened in NYC."
That's stupid. Can't buy ammo with gun untill further notice I was told. Then the manager, who seemed to be from a 3rd world country, had the box taped up and informed me that she would carry the rifle in the box, along with the reciept to the front with me and then would give it to me.
As I was walking with her to the front doors, I actually felt like I was being treated like some kind of criminal and I was actually starting to get embarrassed! :o
We got up front, she showed the reciept to the greeter at the doors and then handed me the box with my rifle in..
Oh well, I think it was worth it, I got what I was looking for. I really can't wait to take this rifle out tommarrow and shoot it :D

No, actually I already have quite a bit of .22 ammo at home but just thought I would get more while I was there. I was actually just glad to be out of there. One, because I was excited to have my new rifle.
and Two, because I was actually pretty uncomfortable with all that damn political correctness in that place.

I've purchased 2 shotguns at Wal-Mart and had similar experiences(both purchased long before Sept.11). I am thankful though that they are still selling guns and didn't cave in to the Hitler lovers like K-Mart did!

Gotcha beat...two weeks ago...
walked into the Indpls City/County building. USed to be no big deal, even carrying. But now...

Give the rentacop this: he DID recognize that my SEbertech pocket tool has a 1" blade and screwdriver...
but he made me leave them and my universal cuff key outside---left them with the nice lady at the carry license desk...

So, I go downstairs with my 4 y o daughter, to the evidence room...they compare thumbprint and ID....then hand me a 1911A1 .45 ACP, magazine and 8 rounds and let me walk out of the building unescorted...

oh...they were in a masking-taped cardboard box. THAT made people safe....

sigh...Osama deserves to die for creating this police state. He won.

Wally mart has had a policy of not selling ammo with a gun for several years now, at least in my area. Buy you ammo first, take it out to your car, and then buy the gun. They won't know the difference.

Matt, they told me that if a spouse was along, one could buy the ammo and one could buy the gun..I think that makes about ZERO sense.
There are several gunshops in my area and they have no problems letting you buy ammo with your gun.
For one thing, what the hell do they think I am going to do? Hold up the place? For one, I just filled out paperwork and had a background check done so If I was gonna rob the place I would wind up on the show World's Dumbest Criminals!

I had a similar Wally World trip.

They seldom have people working in sporting goods who have much of a clue about that dept.

They also escorted me to the door, it was a criminal type feeling like I was being taken to the principal's office as a child or some crap.

However, I would still do it all again. Better than most other chain stores now.
