I just traded my .45 firestorm for a Smith & Wesson mod 66 .357 4" barrel,.
Can anyone tell me anything about this model. This is my first S&W.
I ain't got to shoot it yet but will give report as soon as I do.

I have the blued version of the 66 - the model 19. You'll be very happy with the accuracy. The only down side I heard about this model is that the forcing cones are not as sturdy as the N-frame models (27, 28). I think I read somewhere that it is not adviseable to shoot too many of .357. But hey, I've got no problem shooting .38 specials.

My dad has a Taurus model 66 (very similar) with a 3" barrel. You can shoot more magnums if you stick to the 158grn loads over the 125's because they're loaded at a lower pressure. I also prefer the 158's because they have a less offensive muzzle blast. I'm not sure about 110grn loads, they're lighter than 125's but I'm not sure about their pressures. Of course .38's are the safest way to go if you're not addicted to magnums like me :D .

Did you trade straight across ? What version is it ? 66-10 ? I just got a new one about 2 months ago when I learned that they would no longer be made. I paid $399 + tax for a NIB 66-10 4". It has the internal lock. The trigger is still very nice. I'm happy.

S&w Trouble

Well, I started to clean my new S&W.......found that the cyl. was sticking and at times would not close or if it closed it would not turn or open. I took it back to the shop, they said to pick another pistol...they had no more revolvers so I opted for a Ruger P95 in mint shape.....

The ejector rod may have backed out. Both my dad's Taurus and my Model 28 did this and all it took to fix it was some blue Locktite.

Over the years I've owned two M-19s, a 2 1/2 and a 6", and two 66s, another 2 1/2 and a 4". Of these, only the 4" 66 remains, but I'm not planning to part with it anytime soon. It's one of the 66-7s with the hated/dreaded lock, but I believe that's the last 66 S&W made before discontinuing all K-frames. My guess is that there'll be special runs at some point in the future, but who knows? I use the 4" in IDPA competition and it's a great gun. I found the 2 1/2" too big for CCW use, and too short for field or competition use. Still, they are nice guns, all of them, and I hate to see them discontinued.

I have a Model 66, 4" and 2 1/2" Rest assurred the 66 is a nice handgun. If you don't run too many hot .357 rounds through it will last a lifetime... :D

see if you can get it back

S&W has fantastic customer service. They will fix it for you, for free. They will pay shipping--both ways. And you do not have to be the original owner.

The 66, dash-whatever, is one very nice revolver.
