and so far i love it (with some exceptions, keep reading). put 100rnds through it so far,

good things:
1.) minimal recoil from what i expected (its heavy, thats probably why)
2.) seems accurate (can hit bowling pins at 25 m when i do my part)
3.) pretty much reliable so far - still in the break in period

bad things:
1.) well i would have hoped for completely reliable out of the box but i had 1 FTF, slide didnt lock open 4 times, and i had to push the slide forward to chamber a round twice
2.) IT SEEMS I HAVE A TWO GOUGES IN THE BARREL RIFLING! (i thought it was carbon but after a good cleaning and inspection it looks as if the barrel has had some metal gouged out of it, kind causes a low then a raised point (cant be too good for accuracy) plus, its a new gun!

oh well, that aside i love the idea of the tiny little 40cal. pretty neat

If there is a problem with the barrel notify Kahr. They have a good history of customer service and would probably swap out with you for a good one. I assume that you are not describing, for lack of a better term, 'bullet marking grooves' becoming more common in police firearms so investigators can easily identify bullets after a shootout that came from police firearms.

I've had the MK40 since March 2000. The only thing I don't like about it is that after 75 rounds or so, it beats the hell out of the webbing of my hand between my thumb and index finger.

Does anyone have a solution for that? Some sort of stick on padding? I sometimes wear a glove if I remember to bring it.

I love mine even if it is a little hard on my hand. Very accurate and top notch quality. They are good about customer service. If you have a question, e mail them. Their website is www.kahr.com

And the alley owners don't mind? ;)

I recently bought a full-size(?) K40, and have little to complain about. The only thing shy of perfection is the polishing on the slide (it's an Elite). They could have done a better job with this if they really wanted to; but hell, I don't care too much about cosmetics, so what am I fussing about.

At any rate, mine shoots great. With nice, tight groups at 7 yards I couldn't be more satisfied (Haven't tried 25, though, since it's main application will be close range defense.).

It also has a surprisingly light kick. Almost too good to be true. Perfect for quick follow-ups.

As far as reliability, I haven't had any FTFs or FTEs myself. Not yet, anyway. But then I've only fired about 60 rounds through it so far.

Still, the documentation that came with it says that you should put at least 200 rounds through your Kahr before considering it reliable. So I assume you need anorther 100?

Cheers.

yeah, still another 100. i figured id get some minor problems in the begining but they would work their way out. hopefully. anyhow, i love the pistol, its just the marring in the barrel that bugs me, after some thought i figure that since its in the middle (and not on the crown) it shouldnt effect accuracy its just an eyesore. maybe kahr will just send me a new barrel? :)

all in all i recommend the pistol.
the recoil is mild in my eyes but requires a helluva grip when shooting fast with the smaller magazine.

Don't try and live with the marring, call Kahr!

I've dealt with them several times, and they've always been great. You don't even pay shipping for manufacturers defects.

It's very possible they might just send you a new barrel, and it certainly doesn't hurt to ask.

Next time you`re in the gun store, look at the grip section. They make rubber sleeves that stretch over the grip and can be trimmed. Or, you can take an old bicycle inner tube and cut a section to fit. Or, if you`re not worried about the finish, skate board tape will cushion and give you a better grip.

Unless things have changed since my purchase of K-9 several years ago, I think they recommend changing recoil spring after 2000 rounds. I experienced a couple of failures to feed during break in period, but zilch since and am on 3'rd recoil spring. Several students have purchased Kahrs after firing mine.

A little negative feedback from one lady last year who got polymer frame model; a pin kept working its way out and slightly rougher frame sometimes "bit" the web of her hand. (I think Kahr resolved her pin problem.)

Overall, I've had excellent feedback on steel Kahrs, but they can be "heavy" to some if carried continually. Hope yours works out well.

(If you've not done so already, experiement with some one-handed shooting. You may impress yourself with rapid-fire accuracy. :)

UPDATE

ok, it has now been 350 rounds and the slide will not lock back consistantly. i have had about a total of 20 FTE's and double feeds in the past 150 rnds. this to me, in a carry gun, is unacceptable. on the good side, kahr said they are sending me a new barrel to replace the gouged one i recieved. it seems however that i may be sending the entire pistol into them anyhow. i am not bad mouthing kahr in any way, in fact i love this little pistol, when it works properly. their customer service so far has been second to none and im sure they can resolve my problem here and produce another satisfied customer.
