Got my KIMBER CLASSIC CUSTOM...

Just got it today, fired 200 rounds of FIOCCHI ammos with no sweat. So accurate and smooth. Cleaning it right now, just one question, do you recommend putting a "shok buff" on it? Would it affect the gun's performance?
And how many rounds do you suggest is the "break-in" period?
Thanks in advance.....

Kimbers have differently sized slide stop notches than other 1911's. This means that with a shock-buff installed, you may not be able to "slingshot" the slide when chambering a round- you'd need to depress the slide stop to release the slide. Several manufacturers make "buffs" which may be slim enough to allow enough rearward slide travel. This issue may or may not be important to you. Their usefulness in a carry gun has been debated vigorously, the common complaint being that the "buff" may negatively affect reliability.
I'd say your Kimber is "broken in" after 200 rds, but you may want to try a variety of bullet weights and shapes to ensure reliability. Hope you have fun with your new iron.

Congrats on your new Kimber. I just picked up a custom classic my self this past week.Like you, I have just put box # 4 ammo thru it. Haven't had a single malfunction of any kind. I have been using the 230 gr. UMC bullets. Did you get the Walnut grips or the Rubber type? I was going to try some hollow points in it next. Good shooting to you!---C.L.
