Got my first Smith & Wesson !!!

Well, after a long time of only Ruger and Colt, I became the proud owner of my first Smith and Wesson revolver.

It's a J-Frame model 36, and by the serial number, I would say made sometime between 1955 and 1960. Probably around '56 or '57. It's all original, with the diamond grips. It's in excellent condition, with no noticeable flaws. It locks up as tight as a safe. The best part was the price! Only $269.99!! I couldn't believe it for a beautiful vintage old revolver like this!

The double action trigger pull is pretty horrendous, as is the grooved trigger. The single action pull is quite nice.

So, what does anyone recommend for a good factory load for me? The clerk at the gun store recommended the Federal Nyclad standard pressure, but they were out of them. One of the other clerks came over, heard what the other guy recommended, saw they were out, and took three of the nyclads out of his own Model 37 Airweight, and gave them to me!!

how about a holster? I'm thinking IWB of some kind. Any recommendations?

Wish I had a camera right now (I loaned it out) so I could show you guys some pictures!

Congrats on your 36. I love mine.

Lots of folks here would also recommend the Nyclads, but apparently Federal has decided to discontinue them in non +P.You should still be able to find some at ammoman.com.

As far as IWB holster, well I really like the Barami hip grip. But I'm sure others can recommend holsters.

What size barrel didja get? Be sure to post pics when you get your camera back!

Nice catch.

I use a homemade leather pocket holster which has a clip even with the top edge so the holster won't go too deep into a pocket. Mine has the grip above the pocket. Works front or rear trouser pocket and inside coat pocket.

Have had a 36 for 25 years...

Tight as the day I bougt it for $98.00!! If you "new" friend hasn't been fired DA much, fire it that way and it'll smooth up. I have the grooved trigger also I like it. I can't say that mine is in perfect condition, it is mechanically perfect but has some holster wear and "camara bag" wear. You see, I bought it WAY before CCW laws. It's been a LOT of places on LOT'S of vacations and spent many a night on a dark motel room nightstand. It's the pistol I taught my wife to shoot with when she wanted to move up from a .22 cal. Golly! I'm about to wax poetic about my old 36! ;)

P.S. I always used non +P Nyclads too. Now that they're running out, my gun shop owner has told me that he thinks he can get non +P Silvertips. I told him that if he can order me a couple of boxes, I'll give them a try.
