Got my Enfield!

A while ago, a friend of mine bought a second-hand Rem 700 in 270 to replace his "crummy" (his word, NOT MINE!) Lee-Enfield. So, upon hearing I was looking for one of them for a project-truck-not-a-scout-ugly gun, he offered me his... for CDN50$, along with two boxes of ammo and a thrift-shop scope. He says he needed just ONE rifle, and he was glad to get rid of it, althought it has always been a good shooter. Go figure! I think he just wanted something prettier to show his buddies...

Hey, any gun that shoots is worth 50$!:D

So, I finally got my hands on it yesterday. It has been "sporterized" by a previous owner (read butcherized, IMO) so I don't have any remorse cuttin'& sandin'!

It has a Weaver-style scope rail on top-forward of the receiver already attached to it, so El Cheapo Weaver rings and 2.5X shotgun scope should fill the ticket in the optics dpt, while still retaining the rear aperture sights.

At one point in time, 2" of the barrel have dissapeared, but I plan on having it cut and crowned back down to 19-20", then have a front sight installed.

Besides, I will shorten the LOP a wee bit, and install a rubber recoil pad.

Any suggestions/hints/comments?

BTW, I have read Clinton Coates' stuff, am familiar with the 303BR and the gun is a 1944 Longbranch No4 MkI*.
:D

Funny you should mention that...

An Enfield was my first centerfire rifle, upon which we did a crude home-brewed "Jungle Carbine" conversion. The rifle that set me off on my current Milsurp bolt-gun craze is my roomie's "Tanker" Enfield, a Century Arms import done on a Long Branch (Canadian, eh? ;)) No.4 Mk.1* circa 1943. My Romak AK never looked right propped next to it, so I scored that "Cetmeton" FR-8.

Now we both have swoopy shortened warhorses, and the old rivals look pretty cool propped against the living room wall next to each other... :D
