Picked up my CZ canvasback 12ga today. Pretty nice looking, good fit and all. Nice feel to it. It is kinda stiff still but it is as new as it can be so I guess that to be expected.
One thing I am not sure about is the release lever to break open the gun. (I don't know the right term) It is REALLY tough to push over to the right. I cant do it with my thumb, I have to grab it with my hand and pull it over and then it will kinda pop over when I use enough force.
Is this because the gun is new or is there a problem?

I never knew CZ made shotguns . Whats it like . is it a side by side or over and under .

Dont shotguns come new not oiled ? if so id say its just stiff . it wouldn,t be broke open much in the factory so what id do is give it a good shot of WD40 on the break open lever .

Hey Bob,
CZ is importing Huglu guns over under and SXS, seem to be nice basic guns for not too much. DeHaan also sells their guns.
I put some oil in a few areas and the gun is a bit looser now. Oddly I found if I don't close the gun firmly, with a good snap, then the lever is hard to move when I open it. I think the parts are just finding where they need to be. :)
 
My little .410 was really tight for the first few hundred shells, it's beginning to loosen up a bit, but it is still tight on the lever like yours. Shoot it a bunch and it will break in.
 
Take it all the way apart and CLEAN each part. Then use a light lube to help it out. Reassemble, and shoot the crap out of it(200+ shots). Should help ;)
 
Thanks for the input, I lube it and shoot it. But I don't trust my self to take it apart and then get it back together :p
 
They look like very reasonable guns .

The canvasback is a very nice gun indeed . What will you be usin it for ,bustin clays or roughshooting ?
 
I will be using it for clays and birds. I'm new to this so I still have to feel out where I can go in California to find pheasant and quail. Looking forward to having some good game dinners and some feathers for tying flies. :)
