I bought a Cobra Patriot 45 May of 2015. I could not get 3 round through it. So off it went to Utah. After monthly phone calls and talking with the owner They wanted to replace it with a couple Cobra derringers. I said no. it came back yesterday May 2016.
They Said everything was replaced in it and it was test fired. Do I trust it? No. Guess it will go in my gun pile with the story. Let whoever gets it after I die mess with it. LOL

It does has an interesting history however...Designed by Israeli Nehemiah Sirkis. He was active in designs at Intertec and Detonics.
(Approx years.)
1985 SD-9 (steel)
1990 Intertec CAT Series (Poly)
1997 Republic Arms Patriot(Poly receiver)
2010 to present Cobra Arms bought Republic.
It is the size of my Kimber Ultra CDP2 and the Cobra takes 1911 magazines.

I hate when I have guns I can't trust. The money isn't as much a concern as the actual function. I've run into this with a few 1911s before. What did they say was wrong with it?

Striker/firing pin in the upper...different ..attached diagram. They replaced the firing pin assembly after trying to get a supplier that made one that worked for a year. Unless they just changed the parts out with a good defective one they had?

I am a sucker for guns that don't work well. I like the challenge of trying to make them work...keeps me busy. I have 2 Rogak's and 2 USFA Zip pistols... that are boat anchors.. I had tried to make them work but gave up.

I'm the same way.
But I try to stick with beat up, non-functional, old guns. Buying something new that has a reputation for being unreliable isn't something I enjoy.

Cobra bit me about 8 times on two derringers and some parts. It won't happen again. As far as I'm concerned, they're the enemy of responsible gun owners.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me about 5 or 6 years ago. Right down to the story about finding a manufacturer for the defective part (same part as I remember). I guess they still haven't found one. After about a six month wait I did accept one of their Shadow revolvers in replacement. I traded the Shadow immediately

that looks a lot like a plastic version on the AMT .45 backup interesting, helps to have access to a mill and lathe and some ability to use them, i got lucky with my backup as it works, and now a days i don't have the money to buy stuff to tinker with, hope that pistol works for you.

Put some lipstick on the pig so to say. Added paint. (I got my Cobra 45 back after being out for warrantee work for one year.):)

Sorry to hear about your hard time. 1 year for warranty is horrible and unacceptable.

I am curious if there is an updated part. The diagram you posted shows the firing pin as a -10 and the parts list show -10q.

I am not familiar with their parts numbering system, but maybe there is an updated part that they themselves can't source due to small batches.

Can you, or are you interested in having a machinist make one? If there is a will there is a way. It is simply a matter of how much effort you think this one gun is worth. If you don't trust it, it becomes relegated to a range toy. Looking at it, that doesn't seem to be what it was made for.

Again, I am sorry that you are dealing with this. Why do manufacturers put problems on the public? A carry gun is even more an issue if it isn't reliable.

Good luck

Rich

I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. That being said, I knew I was buying a project gun. I like guns, and you guessed it, I like projects. Mine wouldn't feed 230 gr ammo when I bought it. A 10 minute sesh with the dremel, and it will feed empty cases.

Ha. The only Kahr I have had any trouble with is a CW-40. My pm9, pm45, k9, and mk9 have been pretty much flawless. Only thing I don't like about kahrs are the slide stops. I usually grind mine down with the dremel.

I worked up to and beyond 460 Rowland in my Patriot in May 2000.
The Republic Arms factory, two guys in a biz park in CA, sent me all kinds of parts in assistance, even though their manual said no +P.

After a lot of experimentation with parts shaking off and getting a flinch from recoil, the solution for me was a making a 38 pound triple recoils spring assembly, doubling up the magazine springs in parallel, and wrapping rubber from an inner tube around the grip.

It is one tough and reliable little 20 ounce 45acp.
