Got me a poodle shooter - range report

Today I picked up a new Bushmaster, 20" H-Bar. I had a 16" Bushie with A1 sights in the past, and for some reason, just didn't get around to shooting it much until a friend made me an offer on it I couldn't refuse (no, I didn't wake up with a horse head under the sheets). I don't quite know why, but the 20" feels much more natural in my arms than the 16" did, and I love the increased sight radius (when you have 20/200 vision, you need all the assistance you can muster). Anyway, it's great! I probably shouldn't have done it, but I couldn't resist the temptation to go straight out and shoot it. I loaded up the factory 10 rounder with some ammo and some apprehension, due to all the negative press I've heard about these mags. No problem. I proceeded to blaze away at some pumpkins from about 80 paces (not very sporting for the pumpkins) and had no failures in 140 rounds of Win USA (3131A). Those 55 grain pills certainly do a number on those festive orange gourds. So for now, accuracy is "minute of pumpkin" until I can get to a real range for a thorough wringing-out.
Despite its neutered appearance, it still has a satisfying "touch of evil";)
Happiness IS a warm gun, after all.

Just a suggestion. When you zero it for real, use the Santose method. 8/3 -2 clicks, small aperture at 50 yards. I use this on all my AR's and it works great.

Thanks for the tip!

When you say 8/3 -2 clicks, do you mean "minus" as in "down"? My sights bottom out completely at 8/3 "minus" or "down" 2 clicks. Just want to know if this is correct. Thanks!

If your sight bottoms out at 8/3 you can adjust it. Flip up small aperture and you will see an accses hole. Set sight to 8/3 and stick a 1/16 allen wrench in the hole. Loosen it 3 turns. Leave the wrench in the hole. Turn the bottom of the elevation dial down untill it stops. Don't worry about the top of the dial, just turn the bottom. Tighten the screw and your all set, unless I've forgotten something.
Now, 8/3 minus 2 clicks zeroed at 50 yards will keep your POI within 2 inches of POA from 7 to 200 meters. If you want to shoot 300 meters, set sight to 8/3.
