Got me a new P32!

I went to the Houston show today and found many people selling the hard chomed P32s for ~$280. At first, I didn't think that was so bad, since I could buy a regular model for ~$230, then have it hard chromed for anout $60 or so. Then, I passed by Bachman, and they had the hard chromed model for $229. I couldn't pass it up, so I got one, an extra 7 rnd mag, and a 10 rnd mag. Then I picked up a Don Hume front pocket holster that works quite well. So, what do youy guys think...good deal? Now I just gotta shoot it! I can't wait!

Good price, but you could have Kel Tec replace the blued slide for a hard chrome one for $20 plus postage on the slide and barrel, that you return. (Since the slide and barrel are not legally a gun you can ship them for $5 or less Priority Mail including insurance.)

$229 for hard chrome is a good deal, Brouhaha! The guy with the $280 price is pipe-dreaming. That's why you should always walk the whole gun show before making a major buy.

Enjoy your new Amazing Little Spitwad! (tm)

I'm confused. I've shipped my complete Taurus PT-140 to Taurus several times simply by dropping it in a FedEx box and sending it. And they ship it back to me via FedEx directly to my house. I'm not an FFL holder.

Are you saying that the USPS has rules about shipping complete guns that the private carriers don't have, and it's cheaper to go USPS if you can? I may have read your post wrong, but now you have me wondering what the rules for shipping a gun are...

BTW, sorry this post is so off-topic!!

Acme,

You're talking about 2 different things here. You're talking about shipping the entire gun, gmeister is talking about sending just the slide & barrel. The slide & barrel are not considered a "gun", they are gun parts, they have no serial number on them. They can be legally sent USPS. You can't send the entire gun or the frame (which has the serial number on it) by USPS. I understand an FFL holder can send the entire gun to the factory for you by USPS but not you.

alamo,

Thanks for the reply. I think my confusion is in the fact that I always figured the private carriers (FedEx, Airborne, UPS, etc.) were held to the same "rules" as USPS. Apparently that's not true from what you're saying. USPS won't ship a complete gun, but FedEx doesn't mind.

I'm pretty well done shipping things USPS anyway. They've lost WAY too much of my stuff and I've finally learned my lesson. I'll pay a few dollars more for FedEx and not worry about those silly rules!! :)

Thanks again for the clarification,

I am under the impression that you can mail guns to the original manufacturer for service, just not to buyers, smith's, etc.

You can't send a gun by USPS to a manufacturer unless you are an FFL. You have to use UPS, FEDEX etc. I'm not an expert on firearm shipping but I do know this is correct as I've sent a couple of guns to the factory before.

slojim,

You can send a rifle via USPS, but it is never legal for an unlicensed person (not an FFL) to send a handgun via USPS.
