Got back to the range after a long hiatus (fairly long)

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to share my enthusiasm and excitement.

I just returned from the range with one of the partners at my firm who is a member for some lunchtime target practice.

I haven't been to the range in over 10 years. I took the following from my inherited assortment - .25 Bauer; .380 International Firearms Model D (the gun I learned to shoot with); Taurus PT-92 AFS. The good news - I was able to shoot relatively tight groups from the get go (some dry firing practice certainly helped in that regard). Definitely need to go back to class and get some tutelage from an instructor to improve my technique at longer distances. I remembered enough but still a lot lost in the rusty memory cells. However, given the long layoff I was relatively pleased. I had definitely forgotten how fun it is to target shoot!

The Bauer jammed 4 times over 2 magazines despite a very thorough cleaning last night. Could be the ammo, I know this model is reputed to be very finicky. Certainly wouldn't want to trust my life on it.... Can't decide whether to bother trying to get it more reliable or keep it as a memento.

The .380 was what I remembered. No jams over about 24 rounds of FMJ. Reasonably accurate at a short distance, but loud and a lot more recoil than you'd expect. I'll take it out again.

I definitely shot the best with the Taurus, getting a fairly tight group (4" or so) at 10 yards. This was NIB, my father never fired it. I cleaned it last night and am very impressed with the performance fresh out of the box. 45 rounds of FMJ without a hitch. I am very pleased with this pistol and I felt very comfortable with it.

Tried my friends Ruger .22 target pistol which was very smooth. He also has a Beretta 92FS which I'll try next time out to compare with the Taurus.

All in all a great day, signed up for the training/safety class which has a 4 month membership included in the fee. Anyway, thanks for humoring me!

I always enjoy a vicarious trip to the range (for the geeks, that's "virtual shooting"). Thanks for posting the report.
