Got a Springfield TRP today

Like a parasitic worm living in my brain. Once I held it I knew it wouldn't be long. My machine kept churning until I formulated what kind of trade + cash I could live with. Traded 3 guns and a few hundred. The trades were duplicates in model and caliber. As one of the guys at the LGS said, "you just traded one nag and two work horses for a thoroughbred!"

Can't wait to shoot it. BAM. I kicked it up a notch!

How does it shoot, Harry?

Shoots excellent! No malfunciones... Nada. That rough checkering didn't hurt a bit. Gonna shop for an alt to that weird guide rod, worked fine, but seems complicated... Maybe they need to tell me why the call it NM.

Upon cleaning... This son of a gun is FIT TOGETHER! Feels awesome. I am very happy. May look into thicker grips. My size of hands tends to pull left with such a slim handle.

Will I post a picture? Maybe.

I sure love talking to me. :) !!!

I had a TRP for awhile, nice guns for sure, what did you ended up trading towards it if you don't mind me asking, prices for TRP's are all over the board sometimes... I got mine used but barely touched for $1000

Congrats on the new pistol, looks like a keeper. LGS here is showing $1325.99 on their web sight. There is just something about a 1911.....:D

Price tag was $1,375

Traded 2 CZ's and a Beretta. Nice to only pay tax on the cash amount. Sure... This trade cost me money, but to me it's worth it. The guns I traded were bought new and made "used" by me.

Some people go to NFL GAMES - go price some of those tickets - I, on the other hand, spend money trading and at the range. There is a cost to everything.

I have a full rail with EB msh, short pad trigger, non ambi thumb safety, and pinned ejector.

I'd confidently put it against any semi custom 1911.

I had an older first generation TRP that I recently traded off. Didn't have the flaired mag well and ambi safety. Also it was stainless with the black armor coat. Over the past 6 years I put 3-4k rounds through it and never had a hiccup. Only reason I traded it is because over time I acquired some other 1911s that I preferred to shoot over it but wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend that gun to anyone.

Picture of my new favorite

I'll be keeping this for a long time. If nothing else, just for the envy of all my friends and even strangers at the range!

You didn't get too beat up... and trust me I know... I was just at the Ravens game yesterday with lower endzone tickets with a tailgate area parking pass..... $$$.

I don't know if I would have traded 3 guns for a TRP. They are nice, but they aren't anything more than a production 1911. However if you didn't want those guns anymore and you love the TRP, you did well for yourself.

Mine was great, as I said I bought it used for $1000, same exact model as yours. It was in great shape, but I dont know how many rounds it saw. It never gave me any issues. I sold it to a buddy of mine when I bought an STI Tactical. It still runs great and I get to shoot it still every now and then.

If you plan on keeping it a LONG time, I'd say change the guide rod to the normal GI style, and possibly swap out the internals for WC or similar ones and have a gunsmith fit them and give it a trigger / tune job.

Sti is a fine gun...

Made in Georgetown TX. Just a few miles up the road from me. I have one of their AR 15's!

The TRP is certainly fitted a lot more precise than my stainless SA 1911 Mil Spec... And I like the Novak sight and the flared mag well. The bushing fit is precise as is the slide... I would give it a little more credit than "just a production gun" simply because the work is evident in the fitted parts.

Agreed that the 2-piece guide rod is kind of weird... And who wouldn't want more WC parts? Fun things to do in the future!

I wasn't trying to knock the gun, that is for sure, however I was saying that its not made by the 1911 gods that cost 3x as much.

I do not mean production gun has a bad thing... its a FINE example of what a production 1911 can and should be... unlike the less than quality Rugers, Remingtons, Para's ect. Play with them side by side and you will notice what us 1911 snobs mean by cutting corners.;) I will say my TRP and my SA Champion Operator.. as far as the slide to frame fit, have been some of the tightest 1911's I owned. My STI is also tight... but much smoother... but cost me 2x as much as either SA, so that isn't a knock against SA... the STI feels like it rides on glass, but that doesn't stop me from shooting the snot out of it.:D

I absolutely LOVE my STI and I plan to own a few more to my collection, they are a little tough to get all the way to PA however. I ordered mine from shooters connection out there in Texas because at the time they were the only ones who had the model I wanted in stock.

I am sure I will own another TRP some day... I have been hunting for a decent deal on the rarer TRP Operator Full Rail. Someday ill get one to match my STI full rail.

I paid plenty for a range officer $800 ish more probably with the governors portion at a LGS. Are the TRP guide rods similar with the double spring jobby? Does the double spring help with +P? Maybe apples and oranges?

Guide rod

My TRP has a 2-piece guide rod... The longer part has the female threads on the internal end and an Allen head recessed into the muzzle end. You have to take it out first before you can depress the plug and swivel the bushing.
