Got a scope, now I need base/rings (Ruger 10/22)

I picked up a Simmons scope for about 60 bucks yesterday, and now I need a base and rings for it. I would like to go with Leupold, where can I buy a proper base and rings online? I can't remember the model scope, it's A/O and that's all I can remember. I don't have the scope here, I'll post the exact specs tomorrow.

HKSIGWalther,

You previously mentioned that it's easy to strip the mounting holes on the receiver. What can I do to prevent this? Did you mean that I should just be careful to not overtighten the screws?

Simmons ProAir riflescope, 4X32 AO.

Can someone please guide me in the right direction? I'm new to scopes, and really have no idea what rings/base to get, or where to get them online.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

You can either go with factory ruger, or weaver wich makes a setup for the 10/22 or you can go with a b square mount wich uses standard weaver style rings but sticks out over the front of the barrell a little, by design, so you can put your rings a little farther apart. This scope requires 1 inch rings. There are tons of mounting options.

Just remember if you go with the ruger setup (including a set made by weaver or others) you will have to use matching rings that clamp on that 3/4 wide rail.

If you go with the b square rail you can use any standard rings.

I ordered a Power Custom mount from OnTarget. It looks just like the Volquartsen mount, but at half the price. It uses standard Weaver rings, it's not like the stock Ruger dovetail mount.

Now I just need a good set of rings. Is the scope I bought alright? I'm hoping this thing will work well, it's a fairly wimpy scope.

I have Weaver-style rings on my 10/22. Course, I have Weaver or Weaver-style rings and bases on most everything. (Okay, Conetrols on my Lil Sako, but I like "purty", every now and then.)

The only Simmons scope with which I have experience is a 44Mag on my pet '06. Has survived me and my 4WD PU on rough roads and suchlike. About 250-300 rounds fired since I put it on the rifle...

I have two 10/22s. I have installed Weaver bases and rings on both.
I'm about to start building a third rifle soon and again will go with Weaver. Weaver parts are a lot more plentiful and obtainable in my neck of the woods.

Sorry for not replying earlier. Was out of town with no internet excess for 5 WHOLE DAYS!

If you haven't installed the rail yet...

I haven't measured the torque needed to sufficiently tighten the screws without stripping the receiver hole so I'm not sure how much is definitely needed. As you mentioned, just don't over tighten. Although some people suggest against it, I Loctite Red the screws in my 10/22s to make sure they stay in place just in case I didn't tighten it enough. I've never had anu problems removing them even with Loctite Red. IIRC, the removeable Loctite is Blue, Red is meant to be 'permanent'.

I always go for the Leupold mount as it will center the scope to the receiver. Mounting rings on the Weaver(-type) and dovetail (similar to the stock 3/4 scope rail that came with your gun) rails will almost always set the scope off the centerline of the gun towards one side of the receiver. Almost all Weaver(-type) rings have one side fixed and the other side as the adjustable clamp. This is not a very big issue as the error from being off center is small and any windage error from shooting at a target not at the distance your rifle is zeroed at will also be very small. Just an asthetics issue for me.

4X is a good start for .22lr.
