Got a scope for my 10/22 - should I exchange it for another?

I just bought a Simmons ProAir 4X32AO scope for my 10/22. 1/8 MOA adjustments, model 21608.

Now I see that CDNN has the Simmons WhiteTail Classic 4.5-14X40 AO for 100 bucks. My ProAir is still new and in the box, and I can return it and get the more powerful WhiteTail scope.

What would you do? It's only another 30 bucks, which is no problem. My 10/22 has a match barrel, new stock, and new action - so it's not stock.

Is my ProAir sufficient, or would you get the WhiteTail Classic for 30 bucks more?

It depends on what you want to do with the gun. Match shooters always want more magnification to lower group size. I have a 2-7x on my 10/22. I like the lower magnification for field use and the higher for target shooting. IMHO a .22LR can be over scoped. Very high magnification makes distant targets look easy to hit. The scope makes promises that the puny cartridge cannot keep. I cannot tell you what to do, but I am no fan of high magnification on 22s. Watch-Six

Thanks for you help, guys. I went ahead and ordered the WhiteTail Classic, 4.5-14X40 AO. 100 bucks from CDNN, Midway sells the same thing for 150!!!

LOL, what did you do, cut and paste this from Glocktalk.com? What? You didn't think you would get decent replies there? You traitor! ;)

Yeah, I did :)

I needed to know quickly, because I was going to go to the shop and return the ProAir scope if people thought it was a good idea. This forum gets more traffic than the Rimfire Club, so I posted both places to try and get someone to see it quickly.

Turned out I didn't go to the shop anyway, so I still need to return this scope.

I really hope the medium-height rings I ordered for the ProAir will work with the WhiteTail scope!
