I bought a new 22/45 pistol today. I only had about 200 to spend and wound up getting the Ruger P512 new for $199. Took it apart and cleaned off the excess grease just a little while ago. Wasn't as hard as some people here have indicated. Now, I can't wait to go out and try it at the range. In the not too distant future, I may try a Volquartsen kit on it.
Also, the 22/45, because of its grip angle, gives me a great excuse to start looking at 1911 model .45 pistols. My .22 needs a companion!
