Got a letter from my Senator today.

I have e-mailed Phil Gramm about 2nd amendment issues several times recently and today I got a (non-form!) letter from him. Basically he said that the anti-gun bills like 2099 that try to come in the back door thru the Finance Committee will never clear the committee, period. There are enough pro- 2nd votes there to kill any of them. So if you see that a bill is in the finance comm., don't worry too much. But it is always a good idea to let your congressmen know how you feel. I often wondered if anyone even read those e-mails, now I know that MY senator does at least. Maybe yours does too.

Phil Gramm is pretty decent. He say's what he means, and means what he says. Wish I could say the same for Kay Bailey. She can state what her positions are, but she can hardly ever defend her positions. She just "checks the political winds" and goes with the flow. This has meant her support for a whole rash of unconstitutional law, and usurpations of states' rights. I want to get Suzanna Gratia Hupp to run for Senate in Mrs. Hutchison's seat. Then I wouldn't mind Dr. Paul getting Gramm's seat. I guess that I'm arguing that we need a real realignment of our Congressional delegation in Texas.

Never, ever ignore a bill in committee that seeks to truncate constitutional rights. It'll keep us busy, but it will also put the congress on notice 1) we are watching, and 2) we will not tolerate infringement.

Phil Gramm is a standup kinda guy. Good you you. Not all of us have that luxury.
