Got a hankering for a Ruger Blackhawk...

Hey yall. I've been drooling over Ruger Blackhawk's for some time now. I know I want a .357, and more than likely stainless. I've owned several Rugers over the years, so I know they build quality stuff. I now have two 9mm handguns, a S&W M&P9 and Ruger P95. Instead of paying the whoping $628 after taxes and fees at my LGS, I was thinking I might trade in my lightly used M&P against the Blackhawk, since I already have a reliable 9mm.

I thought me getting the M&P would make me toss the Ruger P95 to the curb, but I find I enjoy shooting it even more shince buying the M&P.....go figure! Anyway, what do you think I could get for a trade against the Blackhawk? I have four mags for the M&P, and again it is lightly used. Also, what is the general consensus on the Blackhawks?

I love Blackhawks. As a teenager I shot thousands of rounds through my 22 Single Six, which is seemingly just a smaller Blackhawk. As an adult my 45LC/45acp Blackhawk is one of my very favorite handguns. I would trade in an extra 9mm on a Blackhawk every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

A wild guess on the trade-in value of the M&P would be around $350 or so.
Selling it yourself would get more, of course.
It would kind of depend on the price of the Ruger.
Kind of like trading in a car.
I've owned a number of Blackhawks in a couple of frame sizes.
Other than occasionally trying to send the cylinder pin downrange, and some differences in operation from the original SA Colt, they never gave cause for complaint.
They've all seemed kind of clunky, though, as compared to the Colt SA and clones.
Maybe the new version of the Vaquero is better in that regard.

My first revolver was a 3 screw 357 with a 4&5/8" barrel. Then got one in 45 Colt. Then a 30 Carbine.

Lost interest with the New Models. Just didn't care for them. Old Models are cool.

You'd do better to sell it yourself, whether through Gunbroker, a more local trading/selling site, or a forum. If cost is a concern, just know that no gun store is going to credit you with anything close to what your trade-in pistol is actually worth.

I just took a look at Rugers web site.
In the blued models the grip frames are aluminum with the exception of the ones in 44 special which are listed as alloy steel.
I recently purchased a 3 screw in .357. Great gun.

I own three of them. My favorite is my 50th .357 Flattop built on the, then new, mid sized frame. It is a very close to the Colt SA in size, but is safe to carry with 6.
The early mid sized frame Ruger's (blued) may be the best that Ruger has ever built. My other two are both .44 Mags, one is a flattop (also a 50th)and the other is a 3.75 inch barrel Super Blackhawk Bisley.
That said, I believe the stainless .357 is all steel, but I am not sure a Ruger still makes it. If you can find one, they are great pistols.
