I sold my S&W 431PD the other day for $265 and went to a gun show in Houston today and got a Detective Special 2nd Issue for $325.
Finish looks great with the small exception of a tad wear on the outer rim of the muzzel from holster wear I guess. The timing is tuned JUST FINE! The action is pretty smooth except for a little tight stacking right towards the end of each shot (pretty common with other small frame colts I've handled. The bolt sticking up holding the cylinder looks different from my Official Police in that it seems to be tilted almost sideways out of hte frame holding the gun. The gun sure has that Colt quality lockup to the cylinder in firing position
This is a really cool gun. (But I still love my Official Police better, but this is a cool piece for convinince when it is too hot for a sport coat)
I'd post a picture if I had one, but 1, don't know how, 2) don't have a picture.
The serial # on the gun is 9022## with an M right below it. What year is the gun? And what does the M stand for?
I've heard these second issue DS's will handle a limited number of +P rounds for defense. But I'm going to just stick regular .38 Special Hydrashoks in it for a secondary and backup gun.
Funny, I seemed to miraculously find everything I needed at the show. The ONE AND ONLY Detective Special at the show (and I looked all over for others) at a much lower price than I was expecting (I was expecting $425-450), some rubber grips along with the target wooden ones that came with it, THE ONLY Pair of DS regular walnut grips left with any Grip and Accessory salesman and the LAST 2 speedloaders available in that section.
The Lord was generous to me today
I sure feel like I got a good deal all around.
