Gore actually conceeded! WOW!

I cannot believe this! Even though he didnt agree with the SC Decision he actually conceded! I was thinking in the back of my mind that he would not concede but yet attempt to bring out another ace he may have stuffed up his sleeve! Bush has been and is now President Elect and this mess is finally behind us.

I just hope that the dems dont press on Bush electors to switch their Electoral College Vote!
 
I am amazed... He was actually bowing out with as little dignity as he had left.
A very well writen and statesman-like speach. His speach writer needs a bonus. There is NO WAY Algore wrote that himself. No Way.
 
I thought it was a good speech as well. I hoped he would disavow any attempts to lure electors, so we'll see. His jokes were pretty good and he appeared very statesman like.


I still won't vote for him in 2004.

He could go into acting. I mean seriously! The sincerity that oozed from his orafice was almost...almost believable!

In all honesty, he reminds me of the scorpion / frog fable...it's his nature. He's such a charming snake, isn't he??

I do plan to throw back a couple of beers, crank up some tunes ,("in Birmingham, they love the guhvnah!!"), but I'll hold my breath until the inauguration. Gore / Gore's team could always try to change an Electoral College voter's mind!

Good evening.

Just moments ago, I spoke with George W. Bush and congratulated him on becoming the 43rd president of the United States — and I promised him that I wouldn't call him back this time.

I offered to meet with him as soon as possible so that we can start to heal the divisions of the campaign and the contest through which we just passed.

Almost a century and a half ago, Senator Stephen Douglas told Abraham Lincoln, who had just defeated him for the presidency, "Partisan feeling must yield to patriotism. I'm with you, Mr. President, and God bless you."

Well, in that same spirit, I say to President-elect Bush that what remains of partisan rancor must now be put aside, and may God bless his stewardship of this country.

Neither he nor I anticipated this long and difficult road. Certainly neither of us wanted it to happen. Yet it came, and now it has ended, resolved, as it must be resolved, through the honored institutions of our democracy.

Over the library of one of our great law schools is inscribed the motto, "Not under man but under God and law. That's the ruling principle of American freedom, the source of our democratic liberties. I've tried to make it my guide throughout this contest as it has guided America's deliberations of all the complex issues of the past five weeks.

Now the U.S. Supreme Court has spoken. Let there be no doubt, while I strongly disagree with the court's decision, I accept it. I accept the finality of this outcome which will be ratified next Monday in the Electoral College. And tonight, for the sake of our unity of the people and the strength of our democracy, I offer my concession.

I also accept my responsibility, which I will discharge unconditionally, to honor the new president elect and do everything possible to help him bring Americans together in fulfillment of the great vision that our Declaration of Independence defines and that our Constitution affirms and defends.

Let me say how grateful I am to all those who supported me and supported the cause for which we have fought. Tipper and I feel a deep gratitude to Joe and Hadassah Lieberman who brought passion and high purpose to our partnership and opened new doors, not just for our campaign but for our country.

This has been an extraordinary election. But in one of God's unforeseen paths, this belatedly broken impasse can point us all to a new common ground, for its very closeness can serve to remind us that we are one people with a shared history and a shared destiny.

Indeed, that history gives us many examples of contests as hotly debated, as fiercely fought, with their own challenges to the popular will.

Other disputes have dragged on for weeks before reaching resolution. And each time, both the victor and the vanquished have accepted the result peacefully and in the spirit of reconciliation.

So let it be with us.

I know that many of my supporters are disappointed. I am too. But our disappointment must be overcome by our love of country.

And I say to our fellow members of the world community, let no one see this contest as a sign of American weakness. The strength of American democracy is shown most clearly through the difficulties it can overcome.

Some have expressed concern that the unusual nature of this election might hamper the next president in the conduct of his office. I do not believe it need be so.

President-elect Bush inherits a nation whose citizens will be ready to assist him in the conduct of his large responsibilities.

I personally will be at his disposal, and I call on all Americans — I particularly urge all who stood with us to unite behind our next president. This is America. Just as we fight hard when the stakes are high, we close ranks and come together when the contest is done.

And while there will be time enough to debate our continuing differences, now is the time to recognize that that which unites us is greater than that which divides us.

While we yet hold and do not yield our opposing beliefs, there is a higher duty than the one we owe to political party. This is America and we put country before party. We will stand together behind our new president.

As for what I'll do next, I don't know the answer to that one yet. Like many of you, I'm looking forward to spending the holidays with family and old friends. I know I'll spend time in Tennessee and mend some fences, literally and figuratively.

Some have asked whether I have any regrets and I do have one regret: that I didn't get the chance to stay and fight for the American people over the next four years, especially for those who need burdens lifted and barriers removed, especially for those who feel their voices have not been heard. I heard you and I will not forget.

I've seen America in this campaign and I like what I see. It's worth fighting for and that's a fight I'll never stop.

As for the battle that ends tonight, I do believe as my father once said, that no matter how hard the loss, defeat might serve as well as victory to shape the soul and let the glory out.

So for me this campaign ends as it began: with the love of Tipper and our family; with faith in God and in the country I have been so proud to serve, from Vietnam to the vice presidency; and with gratitude to our truly tireless campaign staff and volunteers, including all those who worked so hard in Florida for the last 36 days.

Now the political struggle is over and we turn again to the unending struggle for the common good of all Americans and for those multitudes around the world who look to us for leadership in the cause of freedom.

In the words of our great hymn, "America, America": "Let us crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea."

And now, my friends, in a phrase I once addressed to others, it's time for me to go.

I thought he did a fair job of readin it. Loved his references to "making EVERY vote count" and his service to the country from VietNam to the White House.

I would trust any used car salesman further than that man.

Screw bipartisan political huggies and puttin the party differences aside.

Let's keep on hammerin and see how much better we can do in two years. The time to start is yesterday. We are still on the edge.
 
Well friends we pulled it out, I was a little worried for a while. Now is the time for us to all pull together and support our new president. He is going to have a hard road with Jesse Jackson and the like tyring to battle against him, we heed to fight for him and for our freedom. Remember - We sink We swim, We rise We fall, We meet our fate together.

I want to believe Algore.... really I do. (And maybe I will after the lobotomy) However, pathological liars are just that. He will no more concede this election than Bill Clinton will go to jail for his crimes. Sure, Uncle Al told the country he's conceding. Lie. He told the world he wrote the speech himself. Lie. He told us he will be at President elect Bush's disposal. Big lie. Pick any item from his speech and ask yourself, "Is this true?" Other than stating he is disappointed (he couldn't even use an adjective that truly describes his feelings...like outraged) he continues to lie. Algore is not through yet. Not with this election and certainly not with the lying. It's what Algore is... a LIE!

Everything is ok if Jessie stays in the "Blue Zone"!

Healing is ok, but liberal, sociocrates "We won, you lost" you do not have a place in this administration, YOU have lost your "franchise" (whatever the heck that is!) in fact we are taking up a collection to send you to China. You should load your carry on baggage in several airports in the "blue zone". Leave now before we will be forced to send you there. Please take Jessie with you. By the way, Jessie, you will not be allowed to take the millions with you that you have extorted from the large companies of the U.S.
Now, we must push to have George repeal all the Executive orders, develop a national energy policy, repeal all the unconstitutional laws, get rid of the Klinton cronies and prepare for the next Sociocrat war with Senator Hillary. Can that be done in 4 years? I still am in awe of the "grace" that Al's speach writer gave him read. This for the first time in all this mess, made him look presidential. And last but not least, Jessie, if you come out of the Blue zone with your "hate-mongering, racist civil-rights explosion, remember, the Republicans and the Libitarians have a special "civil-rights explosion" with your name on it. Stay in the Blue Zone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Yep, it's all over for this round. As it turns out, my personal belief in the idea of balancing a Republican legislative branch with a Democratic President (or vice versa) is kind of moot, since Capitol Hill is pretty evenly divided. On principle, then, I will work toward a 2002 election that will put more legislators on the Hill in support of Second Amendment rights, environmental protection, reproductive choice (and feminist issues in general), campaign finance reform, an end to the phony "war on drugs", separation of church and state, elimination of corporate welfare, protection of Social Security without diverting funds to the stock market to keep this artificial boom going, economic opportunities to help close the class gap, defeating school voucher plans that are a stalking horse to get public money back into parochial schools, and eliminating the death penalty.

I'm also seriously considering running for County Election Supervisor. I have confidence that I could exceed the recent execrable performances here in Florida. Anybody want to come on down and lug my petitions door to door?

I gotta give Gore credit for actually conceding. I do believe however come Jan.21 they will have to take him out of Blair House in a straight jacket...

Al Gores speech was supposedly written by the same person who wrote Teddy Kennedy's concession speech to Jimmy Carter. I heard the news talking heads compairing the two. They said where Kennedys was more " in your face" and Al's was all love and honey. What would really be fun is if these people had to write their own.

Maybe I am paraniod but I thought Gore smiled way too much...like he knew something we did not...irked the h66l out of me!

Yes, there was something a bit creepy about Al Gore's appearance, I mean creepier than usual. I think the Dems may be planning to go all-out to seduce the Electorates to go over to him.. funny thing is though, you can bet for sure that Bush's people are gonna try to swing some of Gore's votes too... this could be interesting, it could still end up in a tie, or end up with Bush winning by a lot more than expected... would be fun to see
