This is the homepage of a bunch of CRAZIES who want to ban ALL GUNS, even single shots and relics. They are responsible for many of the recent anti-gun legislation. IMHO, it is time for gun owners to put as much pressure on the polititians as nuts like this group does. Please email or write to your representatives (I already have)-- we need to counter the negative effects that this anti-gun group has caused.

I found it amusing that one of the "think radio" concepts is that the government is taking away rights. I also thought it was funny when I clicked on gun control myths, the "myths" were gun control!

Yeah, Git, I don't understand why they provide that page on "Think Radio", hosted by this lawyer who believes in emphasizing individual rights. HUH???

I sent this:

Sir:

I just saw your "Gun Control Myths" page. Now, I DO support your goals--I'm not some gun nut. But I also wish you could have provided at least a little bit of support for our side of the issue, not just a bunch of low-brow cartoons. Pandering does not go well with being right. I'd like to use your page as a resource, so I'd like some more information:

1. Where can I find information to prove that guns DO kill children--in other words, that the presence of the gun is often more important than the kind of person who uses it? Though I believe this as a matter of common sense, I haven't found any evidence.

2. "Eliminating handguns and allowing automatic assault weapons to flourish is ridiculous." True. Do you know where I can find information on the criminal use of automatic assault weapons? How about evidence that they are flourishing, or at least that they're too damn easy to get?

3. "The *NUMBER ONE* caus of children's death in the home is guns." Again, that just makes sense. What was your source for this? I'd like to be able to cite a source next time I use it. You probably know how often gun advocates derail perfectly good arguments by asking for sources and documentation.

4. "Guns are turning our schools into battlefields." There must be some evidence that school shootings are increasing, since guns are so much more easily available today. But where did you find yours? As a school teacher, I'm particularly interested in this one since the topic comes up often for me.

5. "There is an epidemic of gun violence." This should be another one that's easy to prove. Just look at the rising tide of gun violence in recent years, right? Could you point me to the source you used?

6. "The cost of gun violence is high." This one is subjective but I've never met or debated a gun nut who will admit to disagreeing with it. Instead, their attitudes seem to be that although the cost is high, guns are useful and necessary, so it's balanced by gains. Not sure I understand how that's possible but any verifiable facts you have to the contrary would be appreciated.

Keep up the good work!

This ought to be interesting. Actually, for all we know, this could just be a satire site. Somehow it feels genuine, though. Maybe the smugness of thinking cartoons prove a point.

I sent the following letter to goodbyeguns.org several months ago when I learned about it from AOL's Guns Forum:

While I agree unprovoked violence of any kind is abhorrent, gun control is not the answer. I find it hard to believe that you are so naive as to believe that disarming the US population will somehow make it safer. Tell that to the perfectly innocent citizen who is beaten, raped, tortured, or ultimately, murdered because he/she has no means to defend himself/herself. I don't know about you, but I am not a very large person. If confronted by an
attacker, I will most likely be overmatched and ultimately killed. A gun is a great equalizer. The vast majority of gun owners are peace loving citizens who only desire the means to protect themselves in a society that refuses to punish the criminals and make THEM accountable for their sins. But I guess that is the easy solution. Take away the guns and by doing so, condemn the law-abiding citizen to suffer and make life even better for the criminals who will have no reason to think twice before attempting to burglarize or assail their victims.

But if you believe that gun control is the answer, then make it for everybody! You mention exempting police and military. I say if you believe in gun control, then NO ONE should have any guns. After all, since they will be outlawed, we have nothing to fear. Criminals will certainly not have them, or will they? President Clinton, Vice President Gore, Candidate Bill Bradley- why should they have any either? How much would you be willing to wager that the above-mentioned will still have access to them?

That is the biggest outrage! President Clinton and Vice President Gore even more so have proposed registration and the latter has mentioned banning all handguns. They propose these laws while they are protected 24 hours a day by the Secret Service who are armed with these very same handguns. They want to ban so-called Saturday Night Specials because they are supposedly so cheap to buy. What about the person who does not have the money to buy a $500 Glock pistol or $800 Sig-Sauer? As I said above, if they truly believe in gun control then they should begin with themselves. Let the President, Vice President, Cabinet members, Senators, and Representatives be the first to lay down their weapons or their bodyguards lay down their weapons. Do you think they will?

Your cartoon says that "Centuries ago, barbaric societies sacrificed their children on the altar of their gods....They still do." with a picture of The Right To Bear Arms. Over a half century ago, a barbaric ruling party imposed total gun control over its people. That party was Nazi Germany. The result? They exterminated over 6 million Jews and God knows how many other peoples. Slaughtered with absolutely no means to resist their despots. Is that what we want here? Just because it is the United States does not mean it could not happen here. When only the government has firearms, it becomes all too tempting to tighten control over society and "remove" anyone who opposes it.

One more thing to think about. How many people who support gun control under the guise that it will save lives also support abortion? If it is "a woman's choice what she does with her own body", fine. Why is it also not a choice for people to keep and bear arms to protect themselves? I do not believe in forcing any person to own or use a firearm. But I believe that a person should have a right to decide that for himself/herself and not by some
"enlightened" individual who presumably knows what is best for everyone.

Hope all of you are having fun. Facts will never confuse these sorts. It is the middle ground folks that need your time and not the fringe. I hope that they do respond.
