goodbye Weatherby

Well, i'v made my mind up. I'm going to get rid of my Mk V in 340WM.
It's just to much gun for the SE and by the time I make it to Africa all the big ones will be protected.
I got this baby from DAD who picked the stock and got the rifle in the early '80's. Its never been fired or had a scope or rings mounted. hell it still has the paper weatherby tag hanging off the trigger guard. great wood, a real beauty.
I think the barrel is SAKO produced. any body know what a gun like this is worth for sale.
I'm considering a Steyer-mannlicher in .308 as a replacement.

opusxx,
"I got this baby from DAD who picked the stock and got the rifle in the early '80's"

Unless you really, really and I mean really need the money for another gun........you may want to re-think selling this one, your DAD is not going to be around always and this rifle could mean a lot to you later. Just a thought. :)

I agree with DorGunR, I would never sell or trade a gun that my dad gave me, even if I needed the money; the tv and stereo would go first. I don't know what your rifle is worth but do know that some Weatherby's, especially older ones, can have a hefty price tag and you're better off holding onto it, especially one that's in pristine condition.

Just recently, I had to sell my grandmother's Winchester .30-30 to raise cash for a nasty custody battle. I regret doing so, but had no choice. Don't sell that rifle, if you can possibly help it!

Another vote for selling the TV, Couch, Microwave, Computer or whatever. I wish my dad was still around, but at least I have his knives and his P38 to remember him by. Your dad would want you to go to a western state on an elk hunt and shoot it.

well, my father is still alive and when he asked what i had done with it and i told him "nothing" he said you ought to trade it for something you can use.
hence my question.
what is as good as a weatherby mk V deluxe 340 WM?

If your Mark V is the Safari Grade Custom it should bring something like 2800 to 3000 bucks. Your's sounds like an exceptional find for a collector who may pay much more for one in NIB condition. You just have to find the guy. The Steyer is going to cost you a good price as you know. You may be able to work out a deal with a dealer and come up with a scoped Steyer for a swap???
Good Luck

its a mark V deluxe. the wood is exeptional. my father aquried it when in the buisness in the '80's and had four stock plugs sent to choose from. one went on a 270 WM and the other (the nicest one) on the 340.

Why not give Weatherby a call? The mark V Deluxe will bring much less money but this rifle seems to have a story behind it.
