Anyone?

I got asked a while ago by some friends who wanted something "dirtier than dirty harry would carry", but, after having shot the 500 S&W, they didn't want to let loose with one of those.

does S&W make a 454? (not the 460S&W, but, something a bit smaller)
I know ruger does, but, I have never shot it.
How are the current crop of Raging Bulls? Anyone buy one of the more recent models to say one way or another?

I recomend a Taurus Raging Bull 454 Casull..

The best size/weight/caliber in a hunting pistol. Quality is outstanding and it can be carried on the hip. or across the chest. The 460 is a step sideways to the 454casull.
It is a beautiful looking gun as well.

Ruger Super RedHawks are supposed to be great(if you can get over the asthetics and crappy feeling trigger, imo)

If you have the $$$ get the SW460xvr. Unbelievable gun. Its also $1100, though.

Warlock. Freedom Arms makes a Fantastic Revolver. They are very expensive however, but worth every penny. You might give them a look as well.

While the FA revolver is as good as they come (I own one and love it), he wanted something "dirtier than dirty harry would carry." This means a double action revolver to me. Had he asked for a gun dirtier than Blondie or Tuco would carry (The Good, the Bad, the Ugly), I'd agree with you 100% :)

Get the Ruger Alaskan. .454 with a 2.5" barrel. Just hang on tight.

besides the fact that taurus guns have rumered bad quality and are made in brazil, I cant get over the double cylinder release method on the raging bull. I'm very biased towards ruger. (very pleased with there products, all of them). I'd say go that route.

freedom arms offers some very beautiful looking guns. they are pricey, but I'.ll bet worth it.

Try the 460!

You should have your friend shoot a .460. I have the lew horton model, mine shoots with less recoil than my 629 light hunter 44. I have a friend who has a 500, it shoots ok, but is expensive to shoot.

I got a Ruger SRH in .454 earlier this year and have nothing but good to say about it. The trigger feels good and its pretty accurate. I had it on a sandbag this weekend and most of my shots touched eachother...it sure surprised me. Open sights and offhand I can hit out to 100 yards but I would never try to take a deer than far....its just me. Also, I have somewhat small hands and was worried that the gun would be too big for me but I found that the factory grips are great. The recoil, atleast I dont think, is bad at all. For a nice load try 21.5gr of Win 296, Win small rifle primers, Win or Starline brass and a 360gr Cast Performance WLNGC bullet. This actually recoils less than my 300gr XTP loads with 30gr of 296. I think the 360gr lead bullet may be my deer loads this year. Any thoughts on if this big hardcast bullet would be better than a Hornady 300gr XTP Mag bullet? Both are accurate out of my gun.
