Good show, Timney

I ordered a Timney Calvin Elite trigger for my Remington 700 because of the recall. Since I got the gun, I had liked the XMP trigger and was not in a hurry to replace it. I was not expecting a dramatic improvement, but I'll get to that later.

After I placed my order, the order status link in my confirmation email was not working, so I called the company to check the back-order time. The woman who answered the phone was cheerful and courteous, and said they WERE back-ordered because of the recall. It sounds like it has been great for their business. Lucky for me, she checked their stock and my order was one of 2 CE triggers sitting on the shelf waiting to go out that day (Monday.)

The package arrived today and I had to chuckle when I opened the box and they had included a cherry tootsie pop with my trigger. At the risk of alienating people, I have to say, I am really happy to see a company that is not afraid to include a christian poem in their packaging too.

I installed the trigger (while enjoying a tootsie pop) in maybe 20 minutes. it would have been quicker, but I had a disagreement with the bolt release spring and I had to file on my stock a little for something unrelated to the trigger.

now that it's back together, I have to day "daaayyyumm" I didn't have any idea what I was missing. I can't get out to the range today, but I was dry firing at my kitchen table, and I'm a believer. this trigger works like greased butter. the 8oz pull (set at the factory, I don't have a gauge) is not something I'd want on a hunting rig, but I only shoot this gun from the bench and bipod, so it is just right. I love the broad flat trigger as well, it gives me a better feel for where my finger is on the trigger... if that makes any sense. I cannot wait to get out to the range and punch some paper.

anyway... Timney is a great company that makes a great product.

+++++1

Where's my tootsie pop??!? I also absolutely love my Calvin Elite I installed because of the XMP recall, not purchased from Timney, I got the poem but no candy. Isn't it a shame that fancy gold housing is covered up by the stock?

The 8oz pull was too light for me. 18oz felt about right for bench work, but since I grab the gun for coyote hunting sometimes, I set it at 36oz.

My shooting buddy (using the XMP on his gun) tried it out. "Whoa, it just stops after you pull it" was his response. I love how the pull weight and over travel are adjustable!

I went with the nickel plated trigger; so smooth and shiny!!

I got the nickle plated version as well. I figured for $10, why not. It looks great and should be more corrosion resistant.

The only drawback to a Timney is that you might want to add one to other rifles. I put one on my Ruger Hawkeye and WOW, what an improvement. Now when I shoot my 220, I always notice that it just isn't quite as good as the Timney on the 223.

Timney does make a nice product. I put one on my Ruger M77 MII and it`s like a dream come true. I was impressed enough I put one on my sons R700 and it is much better than the X Mark that was on it. Worth every penny in my opinion.

I've been buying Timney triggers for years because they are excellent triggers and much better than most factory triggers. It's simple to install and adjust. Highly recommend.

I installed my first Timney last winter in a wood stocked 270. Installed a second the following month in a 25-06. And a third ditto in a mod-7.

A little off topic but not by much:
My son & family came to celebrate Mothers Day here. When He and family were about to leave I let him try my new 270s trigger. Next day on the way home from his job he purposely drove out of his way and dropped off two Ruger's Rd Tops here. Yup. The Timney addiction never ceases. No doubt I'm keeping the tootsie pop's though. I figured I'm owed those.

nemesiss45 your spot on about the bolt release. I thought when I had completed 3 rifles I was done!! Sir. After a month or so later. I was again admiring my handy work on the first of my three converted rifles. 270. Just casually making sure things were working correctly. I noticed my bolt release wasn't as loose as it should have been when compared to what I had seen on the rifle's original trigger. {Seemed just a tad bit sticky so to speak.} After a little filing on the 270s trigger guard and a swipe of a good indelible black pen my 270's Timney was fully operational. {Completed job looked as neat as a pin too.} Followed up on the two other rifle's. Found the 25-06 in the same condition. That trigger situation was understandable though. Both the 270 & 25-06 are the same model of rifle and having the same identical stocks. So all's well here with my installs finally. Now I got the kids to do. Oh well such is retirement. Always lots to do at the Bench and around the house too. Thanks, for the posting of your thoughts on your install of a Timney nemesiss45

I just installed a Timney, pre-set at 2.5 Lbs, on my "newish" Remington 700 VSSF and it's fantastic. The older Rem. Walker trigger wasn't consistent enough for me. A chocolate Tootsie Pop was completely unexpected, but much appreciated.

Awhile back I ordered a Timney trigger for Argentine Mauser from Midway on special. Unfortunately I managed to order the wrong one. I got approval from Midway to return it then I cam down with pneumonia and my entire life went on hold.

Fast forward a year and I remembered the trigger but now it was too long for Midway to take it back. I contacted Timney and not only did they exchange it promptly I too got a tootsie roll pop that I gave to my grandson...

Their customer support was friendly and helpful every step of the way...

I've been considering a Timney for my 700 BDL. Sounds like demand might be a little high right now. Might wait a little more.

So, how many licks did it take to get to the tootsie roll center of your tootsie pop?;)

ive wanted a timney but, the price, never could justify it.

and a few of my guns do come with match triggers....

but for the most part i find timneys are good replacement triggers, if say your origional is funky or damaged. also easy install on most platforms
