Good shoulder rig?

hi all. I'm new to the forum (as a poster, anyways), and am looking for some adivce on a shoulder rig.

weapon is a taurus m44 6". I am particularly interested in something with an open-front spring design. preferrably also with a thumb break. i would also like provisions for speedloaders.

I'm a righty, and leather is the preference, although i would certainly love to hear about any other cordura, etc rigs too (because as always, money is an object, hahah). any experiences or recomendations would me much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum SBS.

Galco keeps poping into mind when I picture a Verticle Shoulder Holster w/Spring Clip Retention, (?) and maybe Hunter brand. The Hunters are cheaper than Galco. Leather is usually more spendy than a nylon rig.

In some past post a fellow compiled a list of holster makers and their web sites. Look up near the top of the forum header and find the Search tab and do a thread search for holster makers. Then its just visiting those sites and finding something.

I carry a S&W .44 mag Mountain Gun and a Springfield Armory 1911A1 in Uncle Mikes Sidekick verticle shoulder holsters. They are nylon with thin nylon straps that tend to wear on the shoulder when hunting or berry picking all day and the next and the next etc. One of these days I'll get a leather shoulder holster with wide straps for my Mountain Gun.
 
Galco Miami Classic is a top choice. I have carried my Kimber 1911 in one many times.

guess i forgot to mention i also prefer vertical. 6.5" isn't exactly horizontal-friendly, haha. but thanks for the input! and yes, spring clip retention is what i was talking about.

i tried on a uncle mikes cordura rig at Bass the other day. i wasn't particularly impressed with the fitment. even after much adjusting. they didn't have much selection of any leather there, let alone shoulder rigs.

so far, in my meanderings across the net, the bianchi x-15 seems to be the best, if not only, choice. does it tie down on the other side, giving you the option to mount speed loader pouches?

anyone know of any uniform shops with decent selections in (dare i say it :D) southern cali??

Galco discontinued their vertical Explorer holster component but there are still a few available if you look around. It seems to match your specs pretty close. Note that Galco revolver shoulder rigs are quite a bit more than an auto rig as Galco charges about $30 more for a double speedloader carrier than they do for a mag carrier for an auto.

Bianchi X-15. I've got one now and had one for my first carry-gun back in '77 or thereabouts. Very comfortable and secure, nice quality leather. Only knock I have on it is that the support back-strap has a tendency to ride up to the bottom of your neck, especially if you're wearing a T-shirt or non-collared shirt. With a collar though, it doesn't bug me at all and it stays concealed better as well. $90 to $110 bucks and available at hundreds of internet dealers.

Being on this earth for almost 50 years .....I have NOT tested a lot of holsters ,BUT, I have a Bianchi X-15, X Large for my Mod-29 w/a 6" barrel(44 mag),and another X-15 was just purchased off of EBAy for $45.00(Brand new)for my Dan Wesson mod-15-2 w/a 8" barrel (357).....like anything you need to carry ,it takes a little getting used to...with a coat on, walking the dogs in woods,nobody knows your carrying a firearm(and I meet a lot of dog walkers)....I can carry just about anywhere in Vt ...but these two large pistols aren't easy to conceal,but driving is easier ,and the crossdraw (I'm right handed) has always worked for me ....BTW they are spring steel loaded,plus they have a safety strap.....haven't had to take one out of the holster yet ......just waiting for a coyote that does not hear us coming :o)

I just ordered a Bianchi X 15 for my snub nose .38. I pretty excited and hope that it works well for me. $97 at packin heat holsters.
 
I have a Hunter verticle for my 4" Rossi 971 that works well. It has spring retention and holds very securly, even without any kind of snapping retention device. I paid 45 for mine new at a show. Hope this helps some.
