Good scopes for .22

I am new to the board and have a question that perhaps you all could help me with. I am looking to put together my dream hunting/all-around .22 rifle and scope. The rifle seems to be down to either the Kimber or the Anschutz (I go back and forth every week), but I am trying to find out what the options on a scope are. The Leupold 2-7x28 seems to be one of the more popular rimfire scopes and I have read that Kahles is bringing their 2-7x36 scope out in a rimfire version (with the parallax set at 50 yards). Are there other outstanding scopes in the medium to compact size with the parallax set for a rimfire rifle that I should look at? It seems that some of the higher magnification scopes have adjustable objectives, but I was hoping for something smaller than say a 4-14 power. What would you put on your dream rifle?

Any suggestions you could offer would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

I use a bushnell banner .22 scope on my rifle and it is perfect for squirrel hunting. I don't own one but weaver makes a nice looking 2x7 rimfire scope for just over a hundred bucks. The 2x7 leupold rimfire special is a wonderful scope but a bit pricey if you ask me. My little 4x bushnell banner will let me shoot 1/2 inch groups at 50 yds and it was about 50 bucks. By the way, if you want a really nice bolt action .22 take a look at the cz 452 american. Good shooting , Weagle

On mine I put a Leupold 2x-7xRF and it's a fine scope. My second choice would be a Leupold 3x-9x EFR with A/O. A good rifle deserves a good scope and I've never had a complaint with Leupold.

Hard to say which is "best" but I have found that an adjustable objective is key. Parallex errors really show up in close range shooting.

Both Leupold and Burris make excellent compact scope lines. I have a Leupold 3X9 Compact on my CZ 527 in .223. The scope is not only outstanding performance wise, but just looks great on a down sized rifle.
Neither the Leupold or Burris is cheap, but both will compliment the quality rifles you considering.
Let us know how you decide.

Rick,

Definitely get an EFR (extended focus range) scope. Like the idea of a "dream" .22. My "approximation" is a Remington 541T sporting a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20X EFR. Mine's primarily for punching paper (although I do do the occasional squirrel) and the high magnification is great for that. You might want something in a lower X if hunting is the primary application.

A good quality airgun scope works great. They are built to take the 2 way snap of spring pistons so on a .22 they would almost last forever.

Thanks for suggestions

Thinking about the higher magnification scopes with the adjustable objectives opens it up for a lot more possibilities. I wish I could just go to a gun store and look at the Anschutz and Kimber side by side and see how the various scopes fit on the gun. Unfortunately even here in Dallas I don't think there are many places where you can find these rifles in stock (if you have seen any let me know). Bass Pro Shops seemed to have a great selection of scopes, I have to just go up there to see the scopes you suggested in person.

Thanks,
Rick
