An absolute shame that this would even occur. Events like this make you wonder about lending a helping hand. Intervening on someone's behalf at the time may seem like the right thing to do, but now, not so sure. Is calling the police a better option? Do we have time to make that call? Does it occur to people who do help, that this may in some way come back to them? This family is ruined because someone tried to do a good deed.
My question is, does seeing articles like this make you think twice about intervening in a dispute/rendering aid?

Mods: As the crime had to do with firearms, I thought it was an appropriate post. If not, I apologize.

the question, to intervene or not, comes up often on TFL ... the problem, it has always seemed to me, is to determine what is going on so you intervene, if you decide to do so, on the right side. This horrible case ... revenge on women and children ... doesn't happen often, I'm guessing ... and I don't think it would deter me from helping if I knew I was getting involved on the side of right ... having read this, however, if I DID intervene, I'd certainly be on alert for something like this ...

Wait --

The shooter had earlier assaulted the woman and a good Samaritan intervened, allowing the woman to escape.

The shooter later found the woman at the home of the good Samaritan and opened fire?

There is a very large and significant piece of information missing here.

Looks like the Good Samaritan was a neighbor:

The suspect is accused of assaulting a woman, who lived near the shooting victims, in San Bernadino on Monday, San Bernardino Police Chief Keith Kilmer told The L.A. Times.

Emphasis mine. The BG probably saw the Samaritan come out of the house to intervene, or maybe go back to that house.

icedog88,

Please don't be offended, but the attack described in your linked article could as well be made by stick or knife and the story would not change except for a word.

It is a crime report. A shame certainly, by what I read, but a crime report nonetheless.
