An absolute shame that this would even occur. Events like this make you wonder about lending a helping hand. Intervening on someone's behalf at the time may seem like the right thing to do, but now, not so sure. Is calling the police a better option? Do we have time to make that call? Does it occur to people who do help, that this may in some way come back to them? This family is ruined because someone tried to do a good deed.
My question is, does seeing articles like this make you think twice about intervening in a dispute/rendering aid?
