Suggestions? Thanks!
Dave

OH! and P.S. How will the front post effect my sight? I hear when using a scope it doesnt show up...its like it isnt there at all(is this true?) How will it be using a red dot? Will i have to buy a raising bar or high profile sights?

Stop complaining. :)

You really do get what you pay for. Personally, I like the Aimpoints better, but Eotech has its following too.

I've tried a couple of the "cheaper" red dots. They all pretty much took a dump pretty quick, and the battery life on them was short. The Aimpoints run 24/7 1-5 years.

The front sight isnt an issue with the dot. If anything, it always confirms your zero if your irons and dot are cowitnessed.

We have sponsors at the FN Forum that are selling Eotechs for a little over $300. If U look around, U can get a good deal.

I got my EOtech in Dec, and I love it.

I am an EOTech afficianado, however the Aimpoints are reported to be good too. I just haven't had the opportunity to look through an Aimpoint. That's one of the prices I pay for living out in the middle of nowhere, where I belong; NO traffic.:D If you have a store nearby that stocks both, that is the way to make a solid decision on which to buy.
I was out shooting a 22 Rimfire rifle last Friday with the EOTech 512 on top. It was awesome. I love the 1 minute dot the 512 has. Shot 200 rounds through it!!!!
The reason I bough two EOTech's is because I have a friend working for them in Ann Arbor, Michigan, home of EOTech. I live in Michigan too.

Edit to add. The Bushnell Holo sight was designed by EOTech, and is now made by Bushnell. It's good sight too, and I see they now have a low profile model available.

Eotech's are not nearly as rugged as an aimpoint. Aimpoints are practically bullet proof.

With an Aimpoint you also get a 3 MOA adjustable intensity dot, which many/most of the cheapo red dots lack.

The Aimpoint is also parralax free past 50 meters, that may not be the case with the cheaper ones.

The extreme long battery life(10k hours +) for the aimpoint only holds true if you are using the special (read expensive) lithium battery. If you use the watch batteries the life is drastically reduced.

If your front sight post obscures your sight picture you should get the proper spacer.

The EOTech models are also parallax free at 50 yards, and they are rugged.
May Armies use EOTech's as their main battle rifle sights.

EOTech alternative

If you consider one of this type, EOTech makes the Bushnell Holosight and it's basically the same as the EOTech base 511 model.

My understanding is they have the same optics. Differences are the Bushnell is not submersible (only waterproof), does not have the better battery life version, and does not have the reinforced frame. But it's about $100 cheaper because of these differences. You can find them on ebarf for less than $200.

nice....

is their a riser block i can purchase for the holosight? I REALLY dont want my recticle to be sitting on top of my front post that would urk me SOOOO bad.

I have a couple of AK's with the iron sights intact and cowitnessed to the Aimpoint dot. Once your used to shooting with the dot, you dont pay any attention to the irons, at least consciously, unless you want them. Its really not a big deal. (with the Aimpoints, you can actually close the front cover and still shoot well with it)

It would be more annoying to me to have my head up higher than necessary, making the rifle shoulder different. The big advantage to the cowitness is, the rifle shoulders and shoots exactly like your iron sighted gun. Its a lot more natural.

I do have a double flat top AR with an Aimpoint and fold down BUIS. Same shoulder and cheek weld without the sights. But that doesnt solve your issue, just spends more of your money. :)

I'm not saying that the EOtech is n't rugged only that the Aimpoint is more rugged. I've never heard of or seen an Aimpoint break short of getting run over or shot. I have heard of alot of Eotechs breaking in theatre, Maybe they've ruggedized them since the begining of the war, the soldiers relating this info to me (several different soldiers from different units) acquired theirs from civilian contractors before they were approved for general issue.

I chose EOTech over Aimpoint... Just a personal preference. I have one departmental issue w/ EOTech, one w/ Aimpoint... My personal gun has EOTech! I just prefer not looking through/ around the tube with the Aimpoint. I have had 0 relaibilty/ ruggedness issues with either EOT.
