Good reason to get out our side's vote

My worry is that there may be a lot of people that would vote for Bush that might stay home if they see that Gore is winning in the polls. These people who say "Why waste my time voting for a loser." could make Bush the winner if they got out and voted.

We need to do what we can to make sure that people vote, regardless of what the polls say.

Well, the polls are saying that Bush is ahead of Gore by a significant amount. All the Washington Post article does is inject an academic opinion into the mix and spread doubt but it doesn't change the polls one tiny bit.

Gore is laying low right now and trying to formulate a strategy to beat Bush. He's behind in the polls and his strategy up to now, attack, attack, attack has him moving backwards. He's going to come out eventually and try to hammer Bush on abortion and Social Security. Bush had better be ready.

One of the best things Bush can do now is to gather moderate republicans around him and convey the image of moderacy (which I think he is anyway). Having Colin Powell appear in public with him didn't hurt a damn bit, since Powell, besides being almost universally respected, is pro-choice. He needs a lot more of that and a lot less of the Trent Lotts and Newt Gingrichs of the world if he wants any hope of attracting the moderate female and Independent vote that he'll need to win.

Well, I don't see them claiming glory for predicting that Bush would be somewhat ahead in the polls today, so something is amiss here.

It may just happen if we can't get together as a group. Libertarian, independents, reform party, etc., all have to unite to win. We will just split the pro gun vote.

Is it not interesting that the general polls show Bush is opening a lead over Gore AND Gore's handlers can't develop a strategy to stop it? Then suddenly out of the blue comes the pronouncement by some academics that based on their projections Bush will lose? Looks to me like media and Gore's handlers are beginning to panic. The reality of the situation is only the media is paying attention to the election, not the working stiffs. But if the media goes hysterical (as I think it will), we will see a move to bump Gore and use someone else against Bush. Any speculation on who?

While it's temporarily comforting to see Bush ahead in the polls, I think Gore is biding his time. While he's a POS, he does have a boss who's arguably the best politician of this century advising him. No time to be complacent.
