Good price on Model 7?

Hi All.

Walmart wants $560 for a model 7 laminate here in Durham, NC. Anyone know if this is reasonable.

Also, the Savage Scout isn't showing in their catalog, so I have a question in w/ the factory to see if they are still producing it.

As related to a previous post, I have decided to go w/ a simple .308 bolt w/ iron sights as an all around rig. I just need to keep cost down.

Thanks for all the help e/ this decision.

Regards, -Coop

Hey Coop, Not real sure what they are going for. But, I can give you a couple of places close to you that you can check with.

There used to be a big Gun Shop over in Hillsborough called Colonial Gun Shop owned by Johnny Clayton & Mark Stone. When you get off I-85, go North and the shop sets up to the right on a bit of a hill in Boone Square. (919)732-8396 or (919)732-5663 It is within a mile of the Interstate as well as I can remember.

You might also want to check with Ed or Carlos down at Ed's Gun Shop below Vass on Hwy 1. They are about 4 miles North of Southern Pines. They will be on your right as you go South toward Southern Pines. (910)692-7936

I've done business with both of those Gun Shops and it always seemed like both sides came out happy with the Sell or Swap.

There is a C&E Gun Show scheduled for 21-22Apr in Winston-Salem at the LIVM Coliseum Annex. Sometimes you can get a deal on firearms there, but you do need to know what they are worth.

I was quoted $595 for a stainless synthetic M7 in Dec. Price seems a bit high. Check on the ADL in .308, should be at least $100 less.

Forgot to add. Check out used rifles as well. I just passed up a very nice ADL in.30'06 complete with 4x Leupold scope for $425. Just didn't have the $$ at the time.

Thanks

I appreciate the numbers Hot Core. Another friens had also recommended Colonial, so I think I will try them out.

Ric, I was also looking at the ADL... how does it compare to the 7 in terms of quality/durability?

Thanks folks, regards -Coop

The price may not be that far out of line on the M7 with a laminate stock.

The S.R.P. on the M7s is significantly more than the 700ADLs, and the laminate version is more expensive than the stainless model.

The ADL is a larger, heavier rifle than the M7 (not heavy, but heavier than the M7 - by about 1/2 lb.), so if you're looking for a really light rifle, the M7 is more what you're looking for. Your Wal Mart should have one there in synthetic stock with iron sights for about $370, so you can compare them.

If you're considering a Savage, they have a lightweight model called the Sierra (Model 10FM, Suggested Retail - $460.00) similar to the Scout without the scope mount and without the detachable magazine for less than the Scout. Personally, I'd rather have a bolt gun without the DM.

The Scout is called the Model "10FCM" by Savage - it may be in the store catalog under that name.

Semper fi,
Bruegger out.
