Good Pocket Snubbie

For the money? Gun Show back in town, got that darn bug again. Thinking of going for a pocket 9, but revolvers always hold a near and dear spot in my heart as well. Been pocket carrying quite a bit my Glock 27, don't think that's going to work so hot come summertime. Thanks!!

Smith & Wesson 642. its a hammerless .38 special +P, its also an airweight that weight only 15oz. i like the 637 better myself, but it has the exposed hammer and that can get caught up easily in pocket carry. MSRP around $450

I think the best snub out there is the S&W 642. You should be able to get one for $350-$375, which is well worth it. I own and carry a 637 (same gun, exposed hammer) in a variety of pocket holsters, it's a great little gun.

This is what I did to my 637-2 to make it more pocket friendly (less snaggable). It can still be cocked for SA if necessary.

Any Airweight makes a good pocket pistol, as does my Model 60, which will handle +P ammo. Still, either of these would do fine

Top to bottom: Model 638, Model 60, Model 38 Nickel. All great pocket snubbies.

Charter Arms makes a 12 oz. pocket revolver in .38 Special. And then of course there is the Ruger LCR. It's hard to go wrong with any of the guns mentioned so far.

You cannot go wrong with one of the Airweights. My 637 has been an excellent little gun and I prefer a full hammer spur but all of them are excellent.

Look at the Model 438 - all black finish, alloy frame, 15 oz .38 +P.
Currently available in the $355-$375 range. Pocket friendly without giving up the single action option (like the 442/642 do).

My two favorite pocket revolvers are a S&W M640 in .357. Loaded with .38+P's it has a manageable recoil and less muzzle flash than the .357 loads. The other is a Charter Arms .44spl Bulldog. Something about a caliber that starts with a 4.:)

Colt Detective Special or the alloy framed version - Colt Cobra. Six shots versus S&W 5 shots. Or you can go stainless in the Colt DS-II, a stainless steel Det. Spec. - all three in .38 special. Great looks (sorry, I can't enjoy those hammerless Smiths - a look only a mother could love), great reliability and one extra shot. I much prefer the classic look of a hammer snubby.

I carry a 640 also. Although not in my pocket. Iwb appendix is my comfortablr carry spot.
If I wanted to shove a revolver in my pocket, I'd go get a 642 or 442.

S&W 642, .38 Special+P
It's a hard package to beat. It's light, 150z, small, and there are no hard/ sharp areas at all. Been carrying mine in my pocket for quite awhile now, and no holes in my pockets. All the other guns that I pocket carry, SP101, and used to KelTec PF9, required a pocket holster, or the front sight would wear a hole real quick.
And before I get flamed, yes you should use a holster even when you pocket carry. But I find that the 642 conceals better, without a pocket holster, just my opinion, and the way I prefer to carry it.

Steelers252006:

Get any of the Smith & Wesson J frames. I shoot the 442. The 642 is the same revolver but in stainless.

I tend to prefer blue over silver/stainless, aesthetically, so my pocket snubbie is a 442.

A 642 would be just fine, though.

Caveat: the current, flared rubber boot grip that comes from the factory isn't too bad, but even so I installed an oversize Altamont grip on mine. Long or large hands may find the factory issue snubbie a bit of a challenge.
