Good LEO experience

Oleg Volk

Staff Alumnus
I have finally got over my dislike of anyone in uniform. Yesterday I had a pleasant chat with one of the neighborhood cops and -- contrary to the reputation Minneapolis police officers have -- and and every other cop I have encountered were friendly and professional. We chatted a bit about best sources of un-crippled mags, about competitions, department policies, French and Italian police practices, etc. Nice not to have to worry about "those people" as much as I used to.

I think I had put too much stock in various rumors and also failed to separate the hard workers in blue from the predators in some supposedely-LEO agencies...

Four of my best friends are LEO's, and 15 years ago I couldn't see myself being a friend of any Cop!
I have met a couple of "Bad apples", but now I know that the whole batch is not spoiled because of them.
They're always telling me (jokingly) that if they could just borrow one of my rifles, and get on the roof of a tall building overlooking the rough section of town for just one day, the crime rate would drop considerably! :D
And they're fun to party with too! ;)

Are talking about pulling a JFK again? Or was "rough section" about something other than govt. offices?

The March 2000, Soldier of Fortune Magazine has a good article on some ofthe experiences that contribute to a law enforcement officers mindset.
For every one that we find fault with there are a bunch of serious dedicated officers.

Oleg, that's great news. Most of the LEO's I've met have indeed been great people, and most do sacrifice a great deal - I think we generally get a lot more than we deserve, considering the pay and hazards. We are fortunate to have them on the job, and we'd all sleep less soundly if there were no LEO's cruising our streets.

Oleg,
I believe they were talking about an area of 8 or 10 square blocks, where most of the known criminals (repeat offenders) hang out.
Now we all know how we feel about these low-lifes (LEOs included), but that's a whole 'nother thread. ;)
