Good first double action .22 revolver?

That's a tough price point - you might be able to get a Ruger SP101 in .22LR for $300 - it's a small frame, with a 4" barrel. Otherwise maybe something Taurus?

You might look at the Taurus 94. It is well crafted and finished. Built more on the lines of the S&W kit guns, which are no longer made. The DA is very stout, however, my 941 (22 mag) and softened up considerably with sustained dry firing ( on empty cases). The SA is just fine.

Caleb and RFC:

I like the Ruger, and the pricerange is acceptable. I'll start seeing if there's anyone local to my area that I can trade or buy from. :)

Dan Wesson. 722's can be found used in great shape to nearly new in that price range. They are built on the DW 357mag frame so very very stout guns and quite long lasting.

The Dan Wesson might be easier to find in that price range. Try the online auctions, like Gunbroker, or Auctionarms. There is also a line of Argentine made guns, called Comanche, that have a .22 in that range. They aren't the classiest gun out there, but I hear they shoot well enough for most people.

Second Peter

Look for a clean, used, Monson, Mass. Dan Wesson Model 22 or 722 if you prefer stainless. Excellent shooters, if you find the right 'smith the action can be beautifully tuned. Don't like the balance or barrel length it takes 5 minutes to swap it out with another.
Prices vary widely by region but around here $225 to $250 is the going rate for pieces in the 95% range. Have seen some with a lot of holster wear but otherwise great shape in the $150 range.
Take Care

I just bought a Taurus 94 in new condition on the net for $175.00.It's really a nice gun with a beautiful finish and it shoots as accurate as any .22 i've owned,if you're looking for an economically priced .22 kit gun i don't you can beat them.(gn luver)Max W.
