Good defense load for SIG 225?

Some of my favorite 9mm's...

In no particular order:
Speer Gold Dot 124gr, regular or +P
Federal 9BPLE 115gr +P+
Triton 115gr +P
Cor-Bon 115gr +P
Federal Nyclad 124gr

My top three personal favorites:

Federal Hydra-Shok
Speer Gold Dot
Winchester SXT

All in 124 and 147 grain loads.

I've been experimenting with Federal 124gr +P EFMJ as a winter round. Lots of excellent ammo out there and I don't think you could go wrong with any of the above mentioned.

When the Armed Forces did their ammo selection trials for the M11 (Sig P228--the 225's double column twin), they picked the 147-grain Federal 9MS (Federal Classic). I think the 147-grain JHPs may be less "spectacular" than the +Ps and +P+s they are more dependable in that they will "get the job done" time and time again. It consitently gives excellent penetration and expansion. They are easy on the weapon, easy on the shooter and hard on the target.

Federal Nyclads or Speer 125 +P Gold Dots shoot well in all of my 9mmPs. I have a couple of boxes of each stuck back: +p Gold Dots for my BHP and the Nyclads for my Astra 600.

I have also had good luck with Remington's 115 JHP +p and +P+ loads in the past; they tend to feed in anything and hit pretty hard.

I use the Win. 127gr +P+ Ranger SXT in my P225. It was more accurate and had less flash than the Speer GD 124+P and Rem. Golden Saber 124+P.

I use 147gr Federal Hi-Shock(9MS) in my P226. It is also a very accurate round.

How about the very "secret", Secret Service Load?
I have a few of these that were given to me by my
rangemaster, as they were left behind by our federal agent's. Now, that's our tax dollar at
work!!! Looks like a Federal 124 grain Hydra-Shok
too me?

Just wondering why alot of people are hung up on defense round ammos? Defense rounds are more $$$! I think that whatever you normally feed your gun, whether its hollow point or not, +p or not, target shooting or not, should do its job well. You hit that sucker with any bullet, don't think they nor you will care what brand that was. Just my .02 cents on the issue.:p

RT13...concur. But for those of us that live in condo's, apartments, or protect others in the corporate world, FMJ is not the answer. If I was still in the Corps, FMJ would be my only option. Just like that darn energizer bunny......

From what I've read, the following rounds are held in high regard:

Winchester Ranger SXT +P+ 127 gr.
Federal EFMJ +P 124 gr.
Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. +P
Pro Load 124 gr. +P
Federal 9BPLE +P+ 115 gr.
Federal HydraShok +P+ 124 gr.

I don't like the Hydras because they have too much flash.

Up until recently I was a loyal member of the Federal 9BPLE/Triton 115gr +P/Cor-Bon 115gr +P school of thought; however, the magazine of my P7M8 has been filled with Speer 124gr +P Gold Dots a lot lately.
