Good day at the range with tikka 308

Looks like the IMR powders are giving me better results than varget and benchmark. The 165 gr group marked was best. Still playing with the 178 grain amax. It isn't a bench gun but for a thin hunting barrel I think it's going to be fine on a deer or elk. Four shot group on 178 Amax. Three on Nosler BT

I've been reloading with IMR4064 for a while, and it is surprisingly good in both 30-06 and 308 Win with match bullets.

I'm pretty sure you are ready for hunting. Good luck!

Getting there. Going to 700 yard range this weekend if possible. Going to try everything out to 3-400 to check it out. I don't think I'll try a game shot any longer than 300 but want to see what it does. Have MOAR reticle so I need to check that more than anything.

I had just run out of 7 mag powder and happened to look at Nosler site. It appears that the same 4064 I'm using on 308 will also work in the 7 mag. But as par for the course I'm out of magnum primers.

I use Reloder 22 in my .270 Win and getting excellent velocities at moderate pressure. It would probably be a good powder in the 7mm Mag.

BTW: Your Tikka .308 Win is shooting really great! Congrats!

You may want to stick with 150-165 grain bullets in that cartridge as they seem to give flatter trajectory and good expansion on deer-sized animals to over 200 lbs.

I like those groups Wendyj, and I like those 165's in my 3006, I fear no animal with a full mag of those dudes.(animals that I hunt).

165 grain weight bullets are my bread and butter weights for whenever I hunt deer or larger. They carry more energy farther than the 150 grain bullets and tend not to tear up so much meat on the close range shots.

It seems to like 165-168 the best. Tried some 178 Hornady Amax but Nosler bt seem to group better. 150s seem to give me more flyers. Still have 90 178s to play powder loads with but think Nosler has my vote.

Nice shooting! I have a Tikka T3 CTR in .308, and I am currently shooting my stash of SSA 175gr match ammo to generate cases to reload. I have around 800 Nosler 175gr Custom Competition bullets (factory bullet for current SSA match load) and 10lbs of IMR 4064. I chose IMR 4064 because of the good reviews I've read when using it with heavier .308 bullets.
